Chapter 1645 I Can Do It Myself

“What’s wrong?”

Nicole quickly kept her phone away when Tony walked in. She asked Tony, “How’s Ernesto?”

“His condition is stabilized, but he was a wreck. Was he hurt by the person he loved?”

“Stop being nosy.”

Nicole rolled her eyes and exited the room.

Ernesto was already asleep. He looked pale.

Nicole wasn’t sure how would Ernesto react if he found out Alison’s real identity. She could only pray

that things weren’t as bad as she imagined.

Zayn’s wedding went well. He heard about the shooting at night. After some investigations, Zayn found

out that Nicole was involved in the shooting. Zayn immediately left his bride and drove to Nicole’s

place.

“What happened? I heard you got attacked?”

Nicole was touched to see Zayn here.

“It’s not as bad as you think. It’s alright. Go back. You’re the groom. Why did you even come here?”

Zayn felt worried even if Nicole was smiling and joking with him.

“You’re attacked in my territory. It’s a humiliation to my power. I’ll find out who did this to you.”

If Nicole and Samuel were the reason for the assassination of Laurence and the kidnapping of Eaton,

Zayn better stayed out of it. After all, it would affect the relationship between the two countries.

Zayn frowned hard. Zayn wanted to tell Nicole that he didn’t care, but in the end, he gave in when he

saw the determination in Nicole’s eyes.

“You must come to me when you need help.”

“Sure.”

Zayn went back to the palace after Nicole convinced him that she was alright.

At the same time, Xander got informed that his retirement application was approved. He felt

sentimental.

Audrey held Xander’s hand and teased him, “Feeling heavy-hearted?”

Xander estimated that he might be able to go home with Audrey and William after three days.

Audrey could hardly wait for it after hearing the date from Xander. Suddenly, she lowered her voice and

asked Xander, “Do you feel like Nicole is hiding something from us?”

“Didn’t she go overseas?”

Everyone knew Nicole left. So, Xander was stunned a little after hearing Audrey’s question.

Audrey shook her head and said, “I have a feeling that she’s still in Country F. You told me that Samuel

and Tim left earlier, and Nicole left after them. Do you think there’s something we should know but we

didn’t? Try and get your friends to look into it for us.”

“It won’t be easy. Plus, I’m retiring soon.”

Xander understood how snobbish humans could be. Relationships between humans could be affected

by many different reasons. Once Xander left his position, people were going to start keeping their

distance.

Audrey said softly, “But you’re still in the team now. More or less, you’ll get some news anyhow. You

can try asking them in a casual conversation. I bet they won’t reject you.”

Looking at Audrey’s attitude, Xander considered a little, then answered Audrey softly, “I’ll try.”

“Let’s try.”

After a while, Xander knew about Eaton’s disappearance. He frowned hard.

Who messed with his grandson?

Could it be Aron?

Then, Xander secretly gave Aron a call.

Aron sighed when he saw Xander’s call. Then, he muted his ringtone.

Aron knew that Xander called him for Eaton’s disappearance, but he didn’t know how to explain it to

Xander.

The call didn’t get through. The answering machine stated that the number was unavailable. Xander

understood what Aron meant by not picking up his call.

Xander frowned and hung up the phone. He stood still like a statue and was deep in thought.

Audrey walked out of the room after realizing Xander was out too long. Then, she saw a sense of

loneliness in Xander.

Audrey felt sorry for Xander. She approached Xander and hugged him from behind.

Xander was startled by the warmth from behind. The scent of Audrey filled his sorrow and loneliness.

Xander didn’t know how to tell Audrey what happened to Eaton.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing. I was thinking about what I can do after my retirement.”

Xander replied softly.

Xander and Audrey leaned on each other, but Xander felt worried.

Soon, Nicole’s address got sent into Xander’s phone.

Xander told the others in the dark, “Gather everyone. Follow me when necessary.”

“Yes, sir.”

The neat answer from the team sounded excited.

Xander followed the address and arrived at Nicole’s place.

Nicole was surprised by Xander’s arrival.

“Father, why are you here?”

Nicole quickly brought Xander into the house.

“I came to check on you.”

Xander sighed and walked into the house.

Nicole felt like something wasn’t right about Xander. She took a look behind Xander, but she didn’t see

Audrey. Nicole asked, “Mother didn’t come over?”

“No, she’s asleep. Nicole, I need a favour from you.”

Nicole was stunned by what Xander said.
