LAURA IS UNEASY at work.

“Which hospital?” asked the person talking on the cell phone. “Ah okay okay, I’m going to spend another half-day now! I’m dead! Just go ahead! Wait for me, okay, don’t leave yet!”

It turned out that the person she was talking to on the cellphone was Gwen’s work colleague, who is currently in the hospital suffering from stomach pain.

IT’S A hot afternoon, and the patients are currently pouring in, which adds to the heat.

“Doc, here are the records,” said a male nurse as he handed me a clipboard.

The nurse approached the patient she was referring to right away.

I didn’t wait for them to come to me; I followed. And when I saw the patient, I was surprised.

“You?” she exclaimed.

“Gwen?” I replied, smiling.

“You’re a doctor?” Her eyes widened after looking at me from head to toe.

I’m in complete set-up today, from my lab coat to my rubber shoes. I was in the ER at that time and in another hospital there. It was a bit toxic even at noon, to be honest.

“What happened to you, huh?” I asked. “That’s a UTI.”

Gwen couldn’t answer because she was wringing in pain. She just nodded.

I signed the reports on the clipboard and handed them to the nurse. I ordered the nurse to “Take it up, give her what I put there.”

“Thanks-Doc,” Gwen smiled.

I winked at her and smiled.

I left too. I’m sure Laura and I will meet today.

LAURA ARRIVED AT the hospital at 4 PM.

It’s a terrible day! The hospital is far away from our place! Why did you end up here? You’re old! I ran out of money for the fare! What’s going on?” Laura asked. She had barely wiped off her sweat. “What happened?” she asked again while tying her curly hair into a ponytail.

She must have noticed that Gwen was just smiling and not speaking.

“Problem today? Besides your brain, huh? Why-why are you speaking like a dog?” Laura said.

Gwen replied. “Sissy, chill! Do you have any powder? Lip Tint? You need to be pretty today! ”

Laura frowned, “Why?”

“You’re pretty even though you’re sweaty-I guess Doc loves you that way,” Gwen said with a teasing smile.

“Huh? Shut up, sissy! Who’s doc?” Laura is still hungry.

“Gosh! Stop pretending, bitch!” Gwen rolled her eyes as she looked, then abruptly smiled, looking at Laura’s back.

And that’s why…

“Hi.”

Gwen immediately greeted him, “Hi Doc.” Gwen was still holding back the thrill.

Laura’s eyebrows met with shock. She couldn’t believe that Clyde was in front of her with his stethoscope hanging around his neck with his doctor’s coat. She described him as formal and decent, just like the first time she saw him.

Clyde didn’t notice her. They didn’t greet each other. He just continued to talk to Gwen and even pulled her aside to pass. Laura did nothing but sit on the empty bed next to her so that Clyde wouldn’t be crowded.

“Have you eaten already?” Clyde asked softly as he turned to Laura.

“Me, doc? Yes, I’ve already eaten,” Gwen said. She didn’t know if she was being asked as long as she answered.

“Ah yes! Have you eaten yet? No to salt; you’re not allowed,” Clyde said gently. He’s always been mistaken for a gay because of his being so soft-spoken.

A moment later, his interview with Gwen was over. Laura just sat quietly, listening to them.

“You can go out tomorrow and treat yourself at home because it’s more on oral medication, but…” he looked at Laura.

Laura was also looking in the distance.

“But what is it, Doc?” Gwen asked.

“Umm… But can you do it without contact?”

“Contact?” Gwen asked with a frown.

“Yes, because there is an infection, but it’s not that bad.” Antibiotics are all that’s needed, and rest, and extra hygiene care,” said Clyde. “You’re on a diet for a week or so,” Clyde smiled.

“Oh, Doc! I wouldn’t have anything to eat if I didn’t have one! Can I have my mouth at least, Doc? Fingers?” Gwen said, chuckling because she knows Clyde and can joke.

“Oh, that’s fine!” Clyde is also crazy. “That’s fine, as long as they wash first,” he continued while winking at Gwen with a smile. “They can put how much, but tell them to clean up first!” He adds.

Laura simply chuckles.

When it was over, he stood up for a while and faced Laura, who was sitting on the empty bed opposite.

And simply, “Shall I send you food? What do you like, Ma’am?” he said sweetly.

Gwen looked at Laura and teased her even more, holding back her laughter.

“Yes Doc, she’ll spend the night here.” Gwen was the one who answered because Laura didn’t want to talk.

Clyde just smiled, and so did Laura. He simply flicked her knee as a signal for goodbye. Before Clyde even turned around, he glanced at Laura and simply smiled again. And, of course-

“You’re thrilled! You bitch!” Gwen threw a tissue at Laura. “You didn’t tell me that your boyfriend is a doctor; Ummm! Fuck, that was hot!”

“Hey, you’re embarrassing! Stop that!” Laura said in embarrassment. Fortunately, there were only a few of them in the room. “He is not my boyfriend! Shut it!”

“Great sissy! Why are you like that? How to be fuckin’ you?” Gwen said, still biting her lip in delight.

“Why is he here?” I saw him at the hospital from where I went.

“Laura, he’s a doctor! Of course, it’s not fixed in a corner! But Doc is also a joker! I like that!”

I WAS REALLY happy to see Laura. We haven’t seen each other for almost four days, but I still call her even if she doesn’t often answer. She doesn’t even like to read my messages, but that’s okay.

I asked her earlier if she was the one who’d look after Gwen because I wanted to ask her out tonight. I’m thinking of spending the night with her. We couldn’t, so I just sent them food that was good for the whole night. I’ll be back tomorrow for breakfast. I just hope she’s still there and hasn’t left yet. She has a job, I’m sure.

I am currently resting in my room. I felt like I missed Laura all of a sudden, and I thought about our first wild sex again. “You are still lucky, Laura. You just lost your job—how am I? No house! No work!” said Gwen. “Because of that old man! His wife caught him and thinks that I’m flirting with him!”

“Where are you going to live now?” Laura asked seriously.

“Laura, I have a lot of friends. Maybe I’ll go to Pillows first,” Gwen answered. “I’ll contact him before I go out this afternoon to be sure.”

“I’ll just get back to you. I’ll just get my pay,” Laura said.”

“I’ll wait for you, huh? You know that I don’t expect anyone else, Laura, just you,” Gwen said, holding Laura’s hand.

“Me too, sissy, just you bitch,” Laura smiled.

IT’S ALMOST 4 PM and Laura was not yet at the hospital. She went back to work to get her back pay and then straight to her place to get some stuff, but it took her a while, and Gwen was waiting for her. She needed to arrange the papers for Gwen’s discharge.

Clyde is currently talking to Gwen because he was surprised that they were still there. He also keeps going back because he wants to see Laura.

“Ah, Doc, Laura isn’t here yet,” said Gwen.

“What time has she left, Gwen?” Clyde asked.

Gwen quickly answered. “This morning, Doc, she said she was only going to get her salary. So far she hasn’t come back yet,” while looking at his cell phone.

Clyde even jokes, “Maybe I went shopping,” she smiled.

A moment later, Gwen’s phone rang, and Laura was the caller.

“Hello? Laura?”

Clyde just watched and listened.

“What? Which Rebecca kicked you out too?” Gwen almost shouted. “What? Did she throw your things outside? Fuck that-”

Clyde frowned when he heard it.

“What? She thinks that you are flirting with her husband. What the fuck is wrong with that fat lady?” Gwen’s voice was loud.

Clyde even waved and smiled at the patients who caught their attention.

“Alright! Alright! I’ll wait for you! Come back here first so my bills can be settled, and then I’ll help you. They say I can’t stay at Pillows’ place either!”

Clyde just watched and listened to Laura and Gwen’s conversation.

And when it was over…

“Where is she?” he asked Gwen.

“She has been evicted from her place of residence!” said Gwen.

Clyde quickly pulled out his phone to call Laura. He just nodded to Gwen and then quickly left the ward.

“Hello, Laura?”

“Doc-?”
