"You built an entire house in a day?" I call as I approach this fully-fledged construction site.

Jayden turns showing his sexy grin. "Not a house. A self-contained unit. Well, two put together, actually."

I stare at him, then at the building. "Jayden, this isn't a unit. This is definitely a house."

He shrugs. "Semantics. Just the services need connecting by the contractors and it's livable. We got lucky hooking in the plumbing and running the power in."

I plant my hands on my hips. "Fast-tracking like this must have cost a fortune."

"It's an investment," he says easily. "It adds value to the property, it gives Kit and River privacy, and it makes sure we don't lose good nannies because they don't have their own space."

I exhale, running a hand through my hair. "You didn't have to go this hard, Jayden."noveldrama

He steps closer, cupping my cheek. "You know me, babe, I always go hard." He gives me a cheeky wink.

"Lord, can you not, right now." I laugh.

"Anyway, it's done. For my family. For you. No amount of money or time matters."

My heart clenches, and I let out a soft sigh, leaning into his touch. "Thank you."

Jayden's gaze softens before he pulls away. "Come on, let me give you the tour."

We walk up the steps and into the doorway where the workers are finishing up the interior.

The space is modern but cozy, with open-plan living, a sleek kitchen and living area, an office space, a bathroom and two large bedrooms. One of them ensuited.

I raise an eyebrow. "Two bedrooms?"

Jayden shrugs. "Maybe they want guests. Maybe one of them snores. Who knows?"

"You really thought of everything."

He wraps an arm around my waist, adding a kiss to my temple. "Always. But how about you? You did awesome today. I'm very proud of you."

"It was pretty amazing," I agree. "It wasn't easy, but we got there."

"I'm pleased for you and I'll be hoping the same happens for me in Brussels. We've hit a few snags with the estate becoming a training facility. Red tape. But hopefully I can get that over the line." ""You will. You'll find a way to get it done."

"It's going to be strange being back there without you and the kids."

"I'm sure the estate staff will see to your every need. Plus, you can go annoy Cass if you get bored."

"But...I won't have you to come home to. That really sucks."

"It does. For both of us. But at least I have the kids here. You'll be alone. Promise me you won't get too caught up in work. I want you to go and do other things too."

"I will. And I think we can have some regular 'meet in the middle' trips that won't be too long flying for either of us."

"Don't forget our non-negotiable video chat."

"Yes, what time suits you best for that?"

"I think before they settle for bed is best. It's way too busy over dinner time and the bath routine."

"Okay, so let's set it for seven-thirty in the evening, your time," Jayden decides.

"I'll make sure I'm home by that time."

"No. That's not always going to be possible. That's why it's video call. You can be anywhere, and the kids have their own devices."

"You don't mind if I'm not always here with the kids in person?"

"Of course not. I won't be. We can do a group call and all tune in from wherever we are. The most important thing is that we never miss it. If we need more time, we let each other know." "I think we can make this work."

"Hell yes, we can. We can make anything work."

Before I can get too caught up in how much I appreciate him, Kit and River walk in the doorway, looking around like kids at Disneyland.

"Damn," Kit whistles, running a hand along the exterior wall. "I was expecting a shoebox, not a whole-ass house."

River is walking about checking out the kitchen. "This is nice. Better than nice. I'm speechless. I've never had anything to live in like this." Winona gestures at Jayden. "You can thank Mr. Overachiever here."

Jayden grins. Just making sure you

two don't regret taking the job. It does need a coat of paint and some decorating. It's a blank canvas. I'

leave all of that up to you. Make it your own. There's a budget set aside."

Kit grins. "Oh, you'll never get us to leave at this rate, that's for sure."

"I'd like to do some of the painting. Some murals perhaps..." River says tentatively.

"As long as you have time, knock yourself out. But do use the contractors for the majority as it has to be ready and safe for the kids to come in if needed. You do the

garnishes in your own time," Winona says with a smile. "If you can choose some colors and let them get it all done tonight. That will suit best."

River tilts her head, studying us. "You two are good at this."

I frown. "At what?"

River waves a hand. "This. Business empires while still being ridiculously in love and kids. You make it look... effortless."

I shake my head. "Oh, trust me. It's

not. Just do an online search if you want to see all the bullshit that we had to get here. Now we just choose each other every day. But it has not

been anywhere close to a V

Jayden squeezes my waist. "But it's worth it."

FQUMS

A truck pulls up near the construction site. "That will be our furniture and décor." River jumps up and down and claps her hands.

Jayden sighs, checking his watch. "I need to head inside to pack and make my wife a cup of tea before the witching hour of pre-dinner begins."

"Oh, you poor baby. Let me come help with that," I tease him. "You guys okay to set up your stuff?"

"We sure are. Can't wait." Kit gives us a grin and I can see the appreciation in his eyes.

Something tells me that these two have had a hard time getting here too.

"Join us for dinner later. The kids will be excited to know you're here to stay." Jayden calls back to them as we go outside and head over to our front verandah. "That's quite a walk."

"Yes, they have some distance. I'll get Bobby to help map them out a yard and garden. He'll enjoy that."

"He really will." My chest tightens as it hits me. His flight is tomorrow morning.

Jayden leans down, pressing a slow, lingering kiss to my lips. "One more night," he murmurs.

"One more night," I echo.

Tomorrow, everything changes.
