Dear Ex-wife Marry Me

Chapter 1616

After wandering around all afternoon, Phil was ready to head back to his room when he bumped into someone coming the other way. His observation skills were sharp, and he instantly recognized the person as someone who had bumped into him before.

He had investigated all the recent deaths, and among them were six individuals from Windhelm. That was curious because Windhelm folks were rare in these parts, but to have six appear in one month was beyond unusual.

He knew he had to inform Philip and urge him to be on guard, but the collision left him feeling woozy, as if he had inhaled something. lan's drugged concoction was potent, meant to muddle the senses for days on end.

What lan didn't realize was that Phil had grown up in a research base, rendering him immune to most chemicals.

Shaking off the disorientation in mere seconds, Phil grabbed lan's arm with a swift motion. lan, quick on his feet, kicked Phil away and vanished into a crowd dressed in hazmat suits.

Phil hit the ground, clutching his aching chest. He quickly got up, eyes red, and went to find Philip.

"Some guy just drugged me. My head was spinning for a few seconds, but he doesn't know | grew up in the lab, immune to all that stuff."

Philip's eyes lit up slightly, a smirk forming on his lips, "Find out anything else?"

"Yeah, Philip. There's a strange number of Windhelm people dying off lately. The research base is usually filled with faces from North America or Astronia. Hardly any Windhelmers. But this month, six of them kicked the bucket. Pretty odd, huh?"

Philip was now certain that lan was in their midst. He chuckled, his eyes narrowing with mirth.

Phil, confused by Philip's reaction, asked curiously, "Something amusing on your mind?"

Philip stretched out and clapped him on the shoulder, "| do feel happy; found something fun."

Seeing Philip in good spirits lifted Phil's mood as well.

Meanwhile, lan, having moved away, inspected the vial on his wrist.

No effect? This was Sarah's concoction, designed to make one compliant. It shouldn't have failed.

But his initial attempt had faltered, and with Philip mostly confined to his own room, Phil was the only link.

lan leaned against a wall, his gaze darkening. He suspected he had blown his cover. Philip, with his sharp mind and attention to detail, would surely pick up on any clue that lan had arrived at the research base.

lan was about to move on when he felt the ground tremble. He hadn't noticed it when Sarah mentioned it, but now, an unsettling feeling shot up from the soles of his feet, sending shivers down his spine.

He hurried back to the core lab, where Sarah was already waiting, her face pale from sensing the second tremor.

lan placed the vial aside, "The drug didn't work on Phil. Seems he's immune. Doctor, | fe tthearanial spgkenTieid's'd hig chance of an earthquake in this region. If your explosives go off inside the base, it might trigger it. Should we give it a try?" Please read the original content at NovelDrama.Org.

Such a gamble was risky; against the might of nature, human efforts seemed insignificant. Sarah didn't agree right away, but she too was aware of the abnormal tremors.

The local officials were woefully unprepared for earthquakes, and with the recent disease outbreaks, a significant event could turn this area into forsaken land.

"Time for a game of hide and seek. And remember, if you're found, it's game over."
