Chapter 1338
Chapter 1338:
Evie couldn’t bring herself to decline Jenny’s gracious invitation. Deep down, curiosity burned within her—she wanted to understand what kind of woman had won Waylon’s affections.
As they made their way to Jenny’s chosen restaurant, Evie’s heart grew heavy watching Jenny and Waylon’s easy conversation, his attentive responses to her every word. She came to an abrupt halt.
“I’m terribly sorry, but I just remembered my plants need watering at home. I should go check on them. Please, don’t let me interrupt your dinner. I’m sure the driver will return after dropping me off just as you’re finishing up.”noveldrama
Waylon’s features hardened at Evie’s words. Was she really so desperate to escape his presence? She wouldn’t even allow him to escort her home?
“If you wish to leave, then go,” Waylon said, his voice as cold as winter frost.
Evie pressed her lips together and turned away.
Jenny watched Evie’s retreating figure before fixing Waylon with a shrewd look.
“Waylon, there’s something going on between you and Evie. You didn’t want her to leave.”
Waylon replied, “She’s my friend’s sister. I was simply giving her a ride home today. Now then, didn’t you mention wanting to eat something? I’m famished myself—shall we?”
Yet despite claiming hunger, Waylon barely touched his food once it arrived, managing only two halfhearted bites before setting down his fork.
Silence descended over the table. Jenny, never one to dance around issues, spoke directly.
“Waylon, you have feelings for Evie, don’t you? I can tell she harbors feelings for you as well. If you both care for each other, why sit here wallowing instead of pursuing her?”
Waylon drew in a ragged breath, his gaze suddenly piercing.
“Do you think I haven’t pursued her before?”

Jenny fell silent at the sight of his eyes, rimmed with a telltale redness that spoke volumes. Never had she witnessed such raw vulnerability in Waylon’s usually composed demeanor.
There had to be a profound history between him and Evie. Jenny set down her fork, letting the weight of the moment settle.
After a heavy pause, Waylon’s voice softened.
“Sorry, my emotions got the better of me, and I was harsh with you. Please, continue your meal.”
“It’s okay.” Jenny shook her head gently.
“You’re my friend, Waylon. Your heartache is mine too. Is there anything at all I can do to help?”
Waylon’s response was a defeated shake of his head. He was lost in his own maze of uncertainty.
Unable to offer more comfort, Jenny focused on finishing their ordered dishes while they awaited the driver’s return.
Back at her villa, Evie stepped into the living room, clutching the takeout in her hand. She moved toward the trash bin but found herself frozen in the moment of release. Finally, she surrendered to her hesitation, unpacking the food and arranging it carefully on the table.
Evie repeatedly told herself that forgetting Waylon was the right path forward. She despised this version of herself—how her entire emotional landscape seemed to shift with his mere presence, like a compass needle always finding its magnetic north.
