Chapter 1309:
“Honey, you’re back!”noveldrama
The moment Madisyn spotted Andrew stepping into the corridor, her eyes gleamed with warmth. She quickly rose from the bench, her excitement unmistakable.
Sensing the moment, the veteran offered Andrew a brief nod before tactfully excusing himself.
Andrew walked up to Madisyn, his gaze softening as he took her in.
“Are you tired? Want me to take you out for something good?”
Right on cue, Madisyn’s stomach let out a small but undeniable growl. A faint blush crept onto her cheeks as she sheepishly scratched her forehead with her index finger.
“I wasn’t even hungry until you mentioned it, and now…”
Andrew couldn’t help but find her reaction utterly endearing.
With a fond smile, he reached out and tousled her hair affectionately.
“My darling, you’ve been working so hard today, and you did a great job. I came back too late—so as an apology, how about I treat you to a milkshake before dinner?”
As he spoke, he pulled his other hand from behind his back, revealing a cup of milkshake—the exact flavor Madisyn had been wanting.
“WOW!”
Her embarrassment melted away, replaced by delighted surprise. She eagerly took the cup from Andrew, her heart warming at his thoughtfulness.
“Enjoy it.” Andrew helped her insert the straw.
“Okay, thank you, honey.”
Madisyn took a sip, savoring the creamy richness of the milkshake and the velvety textures of various toppings, satisfying her taste buds instantly.
“How is it?”
“Great!” she exclaimed, flashing a beaming smile of approval.
Andrew’s lips curled into a fond smile as he took her other hand in his.
“Let’s head to the restaurant now. I already made a reservation.”
“Okay.”
Madisyn sipped her milkshake as they walked, chatting and laughing along the way. So caught up in the moment, she completely forgot to ask Andrew about his whereabouts that afternoon.
Later that night, after they returned from dinner, Madisyn stepped into the bathroom. Meanwhile, Andrew’s thoughts drifted back to what he had seen earlier.
Without hesitation, he picked up his phone, dialing his subordinate’s number.
“Investigate Elton. Focus on his social connections.”
“Yes, sir.”
The late autumn wind howled through the long, unkempt weeds, their dry stalks rustling restlessly in the darkened yard of the house in the northwest corner of the military compound.
Inside the house, the lights burned steadily. Elton was still there. His eyes rested on Rocco, who leaned heavily on his cane, his movements slow and stiff with strain.
“I didn’t expect your injury back then to leave you with a lifelong ailment, General Travis.”
