Chasing 23
With that, I walk into my room before he can say another word.
A lot of things have changed since leaving Kian’s home.
My mornings are no longer characterized by the rush to assist the maids in making his meal while also getting prepared to leave the house and get to work before him as a dutiful secretary. I no longer have to check the calendar anxiously to calculate when next his mother will come visiting. I no longer have to speak to myself, knowing he isn’t listening but pretending like he is anyway.
In all, my life is no longer dedicated to Kian and I cannot stress enough just how good it feels to wake up for once without the ever present anxiety and hurt. My relief doesn’t last because as I roll off the bed this morning and grab my phone, his name pops up on my phone’s screen. He’s been blowing my phone with calls ever since I left and I turned it off at some point.
I would have ignored him like always if I didn’t find it strange that instead of calling like he usually does, he sent a text instead.
“I WILL SIGN THE PAPERS“—Kian
I jump out of the bed and instantly dial his number, needing to hear him say that he means what he has just sent as a text. He doesn’t answer the phone. Instead, he sends another text.
“CAN’T TALK, TEXTS ONLY“—Kian ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
I frown at my phone, hating how I still remember that Kian hates sending text messages. He doesn’t even know how to use emojis properly because he believes text messages don’t have the kind of effect a phone call does. Still, the content of the message is of more importance to me than the things he prefers, He is finally agreeing to leave my life for good.
“ARE YOU REALLY READY TO SIGN THE PAPERS?” I shoot a text back and he responds in the next second with a string of messages.
“YES“-Kian
“BUT ONLY WITH YOU PRESENT“-Kian
“I WILL SIGN THE PAPERS IN YOUR PRESENCE AND THEN YOU CAN LEAVE WITH THEM“-Kian
“THINGS MIGHT HAVE NOT BEEN SMOOTH BETWEEN US BUT I DESERVE BETTER THAN GETTING MY DIVORCE PAPERS MAILED TO ME–Klan.
“MEET ME AT THIS ADDRESS BY 7PM. JUST YOU.”
He sends the address after the last text and the bubbles that always signal an incoming message disappear, signifying that he is no longer typing. I stare at the text repeatedly, unable to keep my eyes off them. The last thing I want is to see Kian again and so my first reaction was to ignore the messages and go about my day. Travis already promised to find a way, all I need to do is to trust him.
However, as the time draws near, my resolve to trust Travis begins to shake, I find myself subconsciously
I
reading the text mess over and over again and before I can stop myself, I am already driving out of
the mansion in one of the many expensive cars at half past six. Following the directions given by the GPS

after inputting the address Kian sent to me, I arrived at the place.
It’s a large fenced clearing with an old and empty warehouse standing in the middle. One of Kian’s many properties, I presume. I find it strange that he wants to meet in a place like this but I assume he’s only trying to keep things quiet for his reputation.
I remain in the car, cautiously looking around while also calling Kian’s number which all of a sudden is now switched off. I try it again but I get the same automated message. It is already a few minutes past seven but I decide to extend the grace of a few more minutes.
When t
thirty minutes pass and he still doesn’t show up, I get tired of waiting, disappointed in myself for even giving him an audience in the first place. I fire up the car’s engine, prepared to leave but a car drives in and parks behind me before I can leave..
He’s here.
“You’re late.” I huff as I step out of the car. The headlights from the car parked behind me flashed all of a sudden, blinding me for a millisecond and making me clench my eyes shut. I open them again, angered by the stupid game Kian is playing but I freeze when I see two men with hulk–like figures standing by the car that I thought belonged to Kian.
I panic, backing away in an attempt to get back into my car.
The attempt fails as a third man grabs me from behind and completely knocks me out with a hard blow to the face.
Adeola Author
Hello everyone,
Thank you for the kind and enthusiastic comments you have left on my book. Also, I saw a few corrections regarding the name of Kian’s uncle that keeps switching from Travis to Tristan My deepest apologies. The reason is because my second book which I have only just completed had a character named Tristan and so I must have switched them while writing my newest book. The uncle’s name is TRAVIS. I will pay more attention to the coming chapters so I don’t make the same mistake again I will also edit the previous chapters and make corrections where necessary Updates for this book will be daily!
Thank you!
