Hailey’s lips quivered while Cole almost lost his balance as he was trying to climb up the bed to be closer to Hailey.

“Wha….do you….I mean, how come?” She finally found her voice.

“Vanessa didn’t send any money yesterday so that means she automatically has to be in court this morning. But she didn’t show up. The court issued a warrant to get her arrested but when they got to the mansion, Vanessa and her mother were nowhere to be found.”

Cole could see Hailey panicking already so he held her free hand and gave it a light squeeze.

“What do you mean they are nowhere to be found? How can those two ridiculous humans outsmart the cops?”

“I doubt they took off this morning. They probably found their way last night. We can’t tell yet if they are still in the city hiding somewhere or if they are out of the country already.”

“All hands are on deck, the cops are doing their job and I am sure there will be news soon.”

Hailey released her hand from Cole and massaged her temple. “What about Eric? He should know where they are. Or did he flee with them?”

“No. They found Eric in the house. He said he had no idea where Connie and Vanessa went or when but it was probably at midnight when he was asleep. The cops took him in for questioning but I don’t think he is going to be released. At least, until we get a hold of Vanessa.”

Hailey sighed deeply. “So what’s going to happen now. What is the next step?”

“The good thing is, Vanessa is wanted by law and Connie is officially her accomplice so you can be rest assured that they will never mess with you again once they are apprehended. I’m certain we will get some news as to their whereabouts before the end of today.”

“I ensured that the cops sent guards over to your place. I doubt there is going to be any attack directly by Vanessa or her mother but one cannot be too safe. Let the guards there, at least until we are able to trace Vanessa. They will also follow you around in case you want to step out. Don’t worry, they will keep their distance. You won’t even know they are with you.”

“Okay, thank you. I hope to hear from you soon.”

“Sure. I’ll keep you updated. Take care.”

The call ended.

“The day she is finally in prison would be the happiest day of my life.” Hailey mumbled.

“Come here, love.” Cole was about to cuddle her but she refused, not moving an inch from where she was.

“Where could they have gone?”

“Please don’t stress yourself about that, honey. The cops will find them.”

“How do we know that they are planning some sort of evil again?!”

“Enough with these thoughts, please. You are pregnant and you are not to stress yourself in this delicate period.”

Hailey frowned at him. “How do you know?”

Cole playfully itched the bridge of his nose as he spoke. “I watched you steep last night and I might have done some research on early pregnancy. I know you are in a very crucial period in your life and you need to be extra careful.”

Hailes heaved a deep sigh. “I don’t mean to freak out or make you worry. I’m just tired of it all. I thought it would end today and then suddenly, they are missing.”

“It’s unexpected but we know they can’t hide forever. They are not smarter than the cops.”

“I find it hard to believe that Eric is their accomplice.”

Cole placed his hand on Hailey’s and thankfully, She didn’t pull away this time around. “I don’t want you to think about him. You have a good heart and that can make you start making up excuses for him.”

Hailey shook her head. “I would not make excuses for anyone that is guilty. It’s just logical to think that he might not know where they are.”

“I understand you, babe, but it isn’t worth stressing over. If he is innocent, I am sure the cops will find out and release him.”

Cole groaned. “Please don’t start, Hailes.”

“Yes, I know he wasn’t the best father. I don’t like him but I wouldn’t want him to be in jail. Especially for something he’s got no hands in.”

“Please don’t defend him, Hailey. You wouldn’t want to know how carefree he

when you went missing. Even after you came back and he found out the truth about what his wife and daughter did to you, he still continued to house them, wine and dine with them. He should have known that if nemesis caught up with them, there was no where he wasn’t going to be included.”

“I know you still have some love left for Eric deep down in you but Please don’t let it bother you.”

“Yeah! I just hope they get caught soon.”

“They will.” Cole reached for his phone by the pillow, scrolled for a few seconds and dialed a number, putting the phone on speaker.

“Who’s that?” Hailey whispered, staring at him intently.

“I’m not only leaving this to the cops. All hands must be on deck.”

Hailey was about to say something when a deep, masculine voice came through.

“Good day, Sir.”

“Secus. I need you to track down Vanessa and her mother. I need a report as soon as possible.”

“Okay sir.”

Cole ended the call.

Seeing the look Hailey was giving him, he spoke, “Secus is my Pl. He is very familiar with Vanessa and her whereabouts. I am hopeful he will

get some information on her.”

Hailey nodded, then rested her head against Cole’s shoulders. “Life is strange, isn’t it? How can we be experiencing something joyful and saddening at the same time.

“Heyyyy,” Cole cuddled her closer to him, then gently placed a hand on her belly. “Our happiness will always be our priority. Vanessa is not as smart as we all think. She and Connie will get caught. We can’t let their actions deprive us of our joy, okay?”

Hailey nodded against Cole’s shoulder.

“What can I do to make you smile?” He snuck his hands under ha twerking her left nipple with his fingers.”

“I have no choice. Then I better get to work, enjoy it while I can.” Cole was almost burying his head under her pajama top when he moved

back, looking into her eyes.

“Do you still feel sore?”

“A little. But I know your lips are going to make it feel better.”

“Uhhhh, Yes, baby.” Hailes moaned as Cole did his magic with his lips. Her heart started racing when he snuck a hand into her shorts, with his

lips still on her left nipple.

A Few Hours Later!

Cole walked out of his house, approaching his car, with his phone against his ear. “I’m really counting on you, Jess. Vanessa and Connie must be found. They must pay for all the hurt they’ve caused us.”

“Don’t worry, Cole. All hands are on deck. I’m certain we will get good news soon. How’s Hailey holding up?”

“She is trying to be strong. I came home to get my laptop and some clothing. I will be staying with her for the next few days. I need to keep a close eye on her and the kids.”

“Okay, that’s good. I’m sure they need you now more than ever.”

“Yeah. I also have something to tell you but I would love for it to be in person.” Cole said, finally approaching his car, standing by the door of the driver’s seat.

“No, don’t try to convince me. We will talk when we see.”

“Come on, Cole. You’ve made me anxious already. Just spill it out.”

Cole was almost giving in when he saw the latest Audi pull up in his driveway with speed.

Cole frowned, wondering who that was. The car was packed right in front of him, then the door to the driver seat opened and a very familiar face stepped out of the car, approaching Cole.

“Cole! Hello? Are you there?!!!” Jessica’s voice came through. The phone was still glued to Cole’s ear but he said nothing. His mind was on the familiar face that was coming closer to him.

Before Cole could even say anything, the familiar face grabbed Cole by the collar and pushed him against his car. “Where is Vanessa and my

child?”
