His job ad had offered five grand a month for a senior housekeeper, which was 60 grand a year. Five times that was 300 grand. Where on earth was Sarah supposed to get 300 grand?

Simon was already flat broke. Even ten thousand dollars felt impossible for her.

She had been so wrong. Foolishly, she had believed she was being admired and that someone wanted to keep her as a mistress.

A chill ran through Sarah as her heart pounded. Her dreams of luxury were shattered. Working as a maid was bad enough, but serving Amelia, who she considered beneath her, was unbearable.

"Come on," Amelia said, leaning back into the couch. "Whatever you had the maids do for you, you'll do for me."

Then, she turned to Zedrick. "How much is she making?"

"Five thousand dollars a month," Zedrick replied, shooting Sarah a glance. "I haven't even dealt with you yet for lying to me. You'd better make up for it now."

"You applied for a senior housekeeper position," Zedrick said, his tone flat. "Do you have any housekeeping certifications? Any work experience? You have zero qualifications and zero experience, yet you took a job paying five grand a month. What else would you call that but fraud?"

His words were sharp and direct, leaving Sarah speechless.

"Y-You-" Sarah stammered.

The maid who had been knocked over earlier chuckled as she picked up the foot bath. "Go get some warm water," she said. "Mr. Jovarek's partner is our guest, practically our boss. So, hurry up."

Sarah had made them wait on her and put up with her for days. They would get their revenge later.

Sarah reluctantly filled the foot bath. As she set it down, the water spilled out and splashed Amelia right in the face.

Amelia froze for a moment. Then, driven by either impulse or her long-held dislike for Sarah, she kicked her hard.

"Can't you do anything right?" Amelia snapped.

"No, I can't!" Sarah yelled back.

"Then learn," Zedrick said calmly. "Money doesn't come easy."

Sarah gritted her teeth, determined to ignore the orders. She figured she could get fired for doing a bad job.

But Zedrick's voice cut through her thoughts. "You signed a contract with the recruitment agency too, remember? If the employer complains about your lousy work, you owe their fees, and it's five

times the amount."

"What?" Sarah gasped, stunned. She hadn't even bothered to read the contract properly as she had been too desperate for a job. She had been panicking due to Helena's scolding.

"It's not as much as you'd owe me," Zedrick added. "But five times their fee is still over a hundred thousand dollars. They're the biggest agency out there. They'll handle people like you who only care about the salary but don't actually do the job right." Cóntent belongs to swnóvel

Humiliation washed over Sarah. She truly didn't have the money to pay them back. Ever since Simon went bankrupt, she had sold off all the designer bags and clothes she once bought to maintain her lifestyle. Now, she had no way of getting any more money.

Holding back her tears, Sarah bent down and wiped the carpet.

Watching Sarah cry, Amelia felt a surge of satisfaction.
