Chapter 165
This news sent Refined Threads Co.'s stock price plummeting to rock bottom. At the same time, several of the shareholders tried to contact Janice, but she did not answer a single call.
It was because she saw Edward standing beside a Bentley on the roadside outside the National Crotchet Union.
For a moment, Janice thought she was hallucinating from not seeing him for so
long.
It was only when she walked closer and the car's hazard lights flashed in her eyes that she confirmed he was really here.
"You weren't supposed to arrive until tomorrow morning, no?"
Dressed in all black, Edward was a stark contrast to her pristine white coat. Snowflakes dusted his shoulders, forming a thin layer.
The next second, he stepped forward, wrapped an arm around her waist, and pulled her into his embrace. "Why didn't you wait for me to come back?"
Edward knew her every move. It was not about distrust but concern that she might not be able to handle everything alone.
She chuckled and returned his embrace. "You've already helped me enough. Besides, it's just business—not a battlefield."
Withdrawing from Refined Threads Co. and exposing Simon for attempting to steal her crochet piece ensured that he could no longer call himself a leader in the crochet industry. Besides, he had no funds left to stir up trouble-unless he sold Refined Threads Co. and went to work for someone else.
Edward brushed the snow off her hair and led her into the car. Inside, the warmth wrapped around her instantly.
"You pulled out your shares, so he has no money left to pay you," Edward said. Staring at the snowflakes falling against the window, she seemed lost in thought. "If he doesn't want to face legal consequences, he'll have to transfer his shares to me as compensation."
That would mean Refined Threads Co. would ultimately belong to her. Would Simon be willing to do that?
"Are you tired? You drank quite a bit tonight. Want me to make you something to eat?" Edward's gaze was fixed entirely on her.
She blinked. "Are you spying on me?"
"You smell like alcohol," he remarked.
"Oh."
She pondered for a moment. "Shall we go to your place?"
"Alright."
...
Back in Edward's home, Janice was truly exhausted. She did not help out in the kitchen and instead sat on the couch, video-calling Jacob.
"Janice, Simon is so prideful. He'd rather die than transfer his shares to you."
Edward happened to place a bowl of cereal on the table.
She smiled lightly. "Then let him die."
"I want to see Janice! If she doesn't come, I won't say a word!" Simon roared inside the police station.noveldrama
Meanwhile, Helena and Sarah were creating a scene outside Edward's villa. Like common shrews, they were cursing at the top of their. lungs demanding that the
"adulterous couple" show
vel
themselves.
As for Janice, she remained unbothered, slowly eating the cereal Edward had prepared for her.
Edward noticed her deep in thought. "What's on your mind?"
She stirred her spoon, her movements unhurried. "Do you think I'm being too ruthless?"
Leaning back in his chair, his eyes were cold and indifferent. "Do whatever you want. If anything happens, I'll handle the aftermath."
It was just like he had promised her when they first met. His unwavering protection had never changed.
Hearing this, Janice put down her spoon and stood up to get her coat. "Wait for me here. Don't go anywhere."
Edward did not turn around. "Are you coming back after?"
"Yes."
He finally said, "Call me if anything happens. I'll be here."
Since she did not want him to interfere, he would not overstep. He would respect
her decisions to the fullest.
"Edward."
This time, he turned around. They were not far apart.
Then, he saw her smile. "It's only been a few days, but... I think I might have missed you a little."
Edward's fingers unconsciously tightened.
The door closed behind her, sealing out the sound of snow falling to the ground.
Edward's driver drove Janice out in the Cullinan, but the car was forced to a stop as soon as it pulled out.
Helena pointed at the vehicle. "Janice, you wretched woman! Was it you who ruined my son? How dare you pull out your shares at such a crucial moment? What are you plotting?"
The window slowly rolled down.
Janice's gaze landed on Helena. "I'm plotting to ruin your entire family and take Refined Threads Co. for myself."
"You..." Helena was about to curse again.
Sarah still had a shred of rationality left. She leaned closer to the window. "I'll
have my brother apologize to you! Just forgive him, okay?"
It was not that she particularly cared about Simon. She simply feared that if Refined Threads Co. was gone, she would no longer be a wealthy heiress.
Janice withdrew her gaze, her voice calm. "That won't be necessary. Maybe now you'll finally understand who was truly responsible for all the wealth and luxury you've enjoyed all these years."
The window slowly rolled back up. The last thing they heard was her voice, drifting out one final time. "I don't need an apology. I only need to see you all on the streets, just like I once was." en
The driver asked, "Ms. Smith, are we heading to the police station?"
"Yes..."
She was going to meet Simon and shatter his last shred of arrogance.
What do you think?
