Chapter 19 New Look

If they let it pass to please the old man, Rejoyla would be totally discredited in this house. Even her mother didn't care about her reputation. How would the others do? But if they didn't accept it, not only Nick and his family would be offended, but Burton also would be annoyed. It might make Jacquelyn's life even harder. It remained to be seen whether Jacquelyn was willing to confront them or sacrifice her daughter.

Rejoyla was usually quite naive, but she had worked for a few years and wasn't completely ignorant. She immediately figured out what was going on. The mockery in their eyes could be ignored, but she couldn't turn a blind eye to Jacquelyn's difficult look.

Rejoyla sighed. No matter how much she hated Jacquelyn, Jacquelyn was the one who had given her life. Jacquelyn hadn't left her or sold her at the most desperate time. Instead, Jacquelyn had nursed her to adulthood. So, she couldn't see Jacquelyn being laughed at by everyone. In the end, she decided to swallow her pride and let it pass. After all, from the time she followed Jacquelyn to this place, she had lost her dignity.

"I..."

"What are you guys all gathered here for?" A low, elegant voice drowned out Rejoyla's faint voice. Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.

The familiar voice made Rejoyla's heart skip a beat. Her eyes, which were looking down, immediately glimmered with delight. She couldn't help but look up, but when she saw who was standing there, she covered her mouth in shock.

"Jason, what happened to you?" Burton trembled on his crutches and went to Jason's side. The sternness he had shown Rejoyla turned into concern.

Rejoyla stared at Jason unblinkingly, her hand still covering her mouth. His face was covered in bandages!

The man who had taunted her earlier for being a fool now looked like a swollen bun. Half of his face and even his neck were wrapped in bandages. He looked like a mummy who had escaped from the museum.

His look obviously shocked everyone. Even Jacquelyn, who was torn, was distracted by him. She let go of Rejoyla's wrist and wondered what the apple of everyone's eye was up to.

Jason wasn't gentle with Burton. The part of his face revealed was cold and serious. "If you want to know how I became like this, you should ask your granddaughter. Georgina poured the steaming soup down on my face! I want to ask her. How did I offend her? Why did she do this to me?"

Georgina defended herself with a pale face. "No, it wasn't me."

"You mean I wronged you? Hillary, you were there too. Tell me, did Georgina throw the tray at my head?"

Jason didn't give Georgina an opportunity to speak. There was no point in saying so much and pulling the cause and effect around. It would only make things more complicated and unclear. No matter what the reason was, it was a fact that Georgina had burned him.

Hillary naturally would not cover up for Georgina. In front of Burton's watchful eyes, she slowly nodded. "Yes, Georgina did it. But she didn't mean to. She..."

Hillary couldn't finish her sentence. What could she say? That Georgina had deliberately poured it on Rejoyla's head to disfigure her? If she said that, Georgina would still be punished.

No matter what Georgina's motives were, the fact remained that she had hurt Jason. This alone was unacceptable to Burton. So why should Hillary offend Jacquelyn for someone who was

destined to be abandoned?
