“If this goes on, something will happen sooner or later. You’re smart, so you should know it better than I do.” After saying that, Betty gently patted Marietta’s shoulder. Then, she sighed softly and left.
When Betty entered the room, she was surprised to see Sean standing by the window. She clutched her
chest before exclaiming, “You scared me!”
“How did it go?” Sean asked while looking out the window.
“I don’t know. I have already shared my thoughts with her,” answered Betty. She stared at Marietta’s figure
and couldn’t help but let out another sigh.
“She used to be such an energetic person. Yet she has become haggard because of her daughter. I
wonder if bringing her daughter back was the right choice.”
Sean didn’t respond.
Right then, they heard footsteps coming from the stairs. They both turned around simultaneously and saw
Caroline and Kirk descending from the second floor.
Betty noticed Caroline’s hurried steps. “What’s wrong?” she inquired with concern.
Just as Caroline was about to speak, Kirk stopped her by pulling her wrist. When he touched her hand, it
sent a tingling sensation down her body. She instinctively wanted to shake off his hand.
However, Kirk’s grasp was firm. No matter how hard Caroline tried, she couldn’t break free from his grip.
“We’re going to the airport,” Kirk replied.
Then, his gaze fell on Sean. “Sean, why don’t you come with me?”
But Sean didn’t want to go. He wasn’t interested in becoming the third wheel. “Why drag me along if you
guys are going to the airport?”
Kirk held onto Caroline and Sean, one on either side of him. “It doesn’t matter. You’re still coming with me.
As he spoke, he pushed both of them toward the door.
A car was already waiting for them. Kirk shoved Sean into the passenger seat. Then, he opened the car
door and looked at Caroline/
She could still feel the warmth from Kirk’s touch on her wrist. As he stared at her intensely, Caroline could feel her cheeks turning red at that moment.

“Get in,” Kirk instructed in a low and magnetic voice. She blushed when she heard his gentle tone.
She had no choice but to hum in response and get into the car.
In the car, Sean curiously asked again, “Who are you picking up at the airport? Why do I have to come
along?”
Only then did Caroline realize why Kirk had pulled her earlier. It turned out that he hadn’t wanted her to say anything. So this time, she remained silent.
Soon, Kirk got into the car too. Sean couldn’t help but say, “You know my time is precious. Why did you
insist that I come along?”
While talking, he curiously turned around to look at Kirk and Caroline. “Could it be that a medical genius has come to Macldo? Wait a minute. Are there any other doctors who are better than me?”
Upon hearing what he said, Caroline smiled.
“Otherwise, it’s the president. But even if it is, you can’t force me to pick him up,” Sean added.
He blabbered on, “When I meet him later, I must have a serious talk with him. What’s so great about being
the president?
“Even presidents from small countries have to respect me when they require my medical services.”
Kirk pressed his temples before snapping, “Shut up!”
