Avery was about to fall apart.

Lia’s expression shifted. “What do you mean? Do you want an elder like me to apologize to you?”
Caroline looked past Lia at Avery. Since Avery used her mother to fight her battles, she had to pay the price.
Feeling Caroline’s eyes on her, Avery clenched her fists. She tried to persuade her mother, “Mom, we misunderstood Caroline, so you should apologize to her!”
