My husband Ex 103
long pause lapsed between Grey and me as we exchanged horrified glances. The only sounds we could hear were Dylan's tearful cries on the other line. I pushed away the urge to burst into tears and gathered my resolve to speak up. "D-Dylan, Mommy is here... Please stop crying," I softly whispered. Unable to control my emotions any longer, tears fell down my flushed cheeks like waterfalls. "Everything will be alright, honey... Mommy will come to get you," I added, biting my lips to suppress the wretched sob escaping my lips.
"Do you believe me now, Lily?" the robotic voice asked as Dylan's tearful cries slowly faded into distant whimpers until his voice couldn't be heard anymore. J
Panic rose inside me when I could no longer hear Dylan's voice, even from a distance. "What did you do to my son, you bastard?" I hissed under my breath, wishing lightning would strike and kill him instantly.
"He's so noisy. I just made him fall asleep for a while. Don't worry, he'll wake up soon, just in time for you to arrive here," he calmly replied, followed by the sound of his laughter reverberating inside a closed room.
My fists turned into tight balls at my sides. He was the devil incarnate. How could he do that to an innocent child? I thought, with deep, burning hate swelling inside
me.
"I'm warning you one last time, Lily. If you tell anyone about this place, you will not find me. Instead, the sight of Dylan's cold corpse will greet you-and the police you're with- when you arrive here. I want you to come alone. Do that, and Dylan will be safe."
The call then ended. The phone slipped from my cold, trembling hand and fell onto the sofa. I made no move to pick it up. Instead, I buried my face in my palms
and let my
emotions flow out in the form of sobs.
"Dylan is alive, Grey..." I whimpered in agony. "I don't know how the hell it happened, but he really is alive..." More tears flowed from my eyes.
A hand gripped my heart even tighter at the knowledge that my son Dylan was suffering at

the hands of his abductor. The pictures the culprit sent through email showed the terrible. condition my son was in. He was thin, frail, and dirty, Imagining him suffering alone while all this time we thought he was dead broke me into a million pieces.
How could a person so evil exist?
"We will save our son, Lily." For the first time since the call, Grey finally spoke. Slowly, I
lifted my gaze to his and found myself looking into his hazel-green eyes. His eyes were filled with pain and sadness, but what stood out the most was the look of pure vengeance that gave me an ominous feeling.
His eyes vowed to avenge our son at all costs, even if it meant losing his life.
Grey gently lifted his hand into the air and wiped the tears from my eyes with his rough hands. “Whatever happens, we will save Dylan. Whoever did this to him will pay the price,"
he vowed, his words steeled with determination.
"I'm afraid, Grey." I let my fears out without hesitation. I knew whoever was behind all this
was trying to lure me to my death with Dylan as the bait. I didn't fear death-not at all. It
was something that happens to everyone when the right time comes. But what I feared the most was the thought that I would never be able to hold my only son in my arms again when this night was over.
My poor son needed me. He had suffered enough! I didn't want to lose him again now that I knew he was still alive.
"You don't have to fear anything, Lily. We need to believe that God will never allow something to happen to Dylan or you. If something happens-which I can't guarantee won't be bad-I want you to know that I will protect you until my last breath.” He looked deep into my eyes as though he was baring his soul to me, and for a moment that seemed to last an eternity, I felt lost in them.
His words were warm and deep. They caressed my heart like a hand, easing a bit of my fear and suffering.
Dear Lord... I really love this man, I finally admitted to myself, and a tear fell from my eye.

He saw the tears and wiped them again as he whispered sweet nothings in my ear until my
tears stopped.
"Go to your room... Have a rest so you will have strength for tonight." Gently, he returned Isabelle to my arms. When I looked at my daughter, I saw that she was fast asleep.
Grey rose from the sofa, but before he could take a step, I caught the hem of his t-shirt. I didn't want him to go. His presence was a huge comfort to me. I wanted him to be by my
side for a while and cherish the moment of peace before the real battle began tonight.
"Where are you going?" I asked.
His hazel-green eyes darted back to me. "I want to make an important call, Lily. Go to your
room and have a rest. Bring Isabelle with you."
My hands loosened their hold on his shirt and fell to my sides.
Without another word, he walked away. I could do nothing except watch him until he exited
the house and disappeared from my sight.
I could feel that Grey was in pain, yet he was not showing it through his actions. But despite hiding what he really felt, I saw it right through his eyes-the window to his emotions.
Letting out a sigh, I rose from the sofa and climbed upstairs to my bedroom. When I reached my bedroom, I put my daughter on the bed, careful not to disturb her sleep.
I was so restless, and I couldn't seem to stop thinking about what would happen tonight. So I did the only thing I knew that could help me overcome everything.
