Billionaire's Pregnant Ex-wife

Chapter 30

I took a seat beside Mom and held her frail fingers on my own. Seeing her like this broke my heart. "Please recover fast, Mom. We still have to celebrate your birthday next week," I told her, I wanted to cry, but c Behind my back, I could feel Grey watching me. He remained quiet as he did so. After a moment that seemed to last an eternity, he finally spoke. "Have you eaten lunch? he asked as he rose from the sola. "No," I replied,

"Breakfast?"

"No," I mumbled weakly, and the realization made my stomach growl in response.

"I assume you didn't eat dinner last night too?"

I didn't respond, and he took my silence as a yes. Grey groaned in exasperation. "I'll be back," he said. With a quick, long stride, he reached the door. Then he was gone.

Sleepily, trested my head on the side of Mom's soft bed. Heaving a contented sigh, I closed my eyes. Before I knew it, I fell asleep.

Slowly, I opened my y eyes and found Mom looking at me with tears in her eyes.

"I'm sorry, honey. I must go," she whispered in a barely audible voice. A tear slithered down her face as she slowly closed her sad, tired eyes.

"No!" A screamerupted from my lips. Fierce terror clutched my heart, draining the color from my cheeks.

*Please don't do this to me, Mom," 1 pleaded, clinging to her fingers and noticing how frail they were.

She didn't respond, and the machine beside the bed started beeping hysterically before descending into flat lines.

"No! Please don't leave

eme! Please don't leave, Mom!"

I felt the world collapse at my feet.

"Wake up, Lily! Wake up!"

I woke up

p with the sound of my tears muffled against the cushion of Mom's hospital bed. Someone was shaking my shoulders, and when i slowly opened my eyes, I saw Groy. I remembered resting my

head on Mom's bed and falling asleep. When I looked down at the spot where my head had been resting, it was wet with tears, and I realized I'd been crying.

It was just a dream! The thought made me sob in relief.

My heart still raced inside my chest as ift had run h marathon, and the same fear that had engulfed me in my dream still haunted me. Noticing how violently I shivered, Grey pulled me into his arms, whispering g

"Hush, stop crying. It's all right now it's just a dream," Grey whispered close to my ear

before laying a gentle kiss on my cheek. He lifted a hand and wiped the tears from my face as he continued to croon assuring words in my ear until my tears subsided..

"I was so scared. I thought I lost her, Imumbled absentmindedly.

He gently pushed me away from his chest and lifted my chin until his eyes were level with mine. There was tenderness in his eyes as he spoke. "We didn't lose her. She's still here, so you have nothing to worry His words worked like magic. In a matter of seconds, I pushed the tears aside and pulled myself

together. He released me from his hold. As he did so, inwardly protested but made no move to stay in his arms. Grabbing a tissue from the table, he handed it to me.

I wiped the wetness from my chooks with the tissue and watched him move with ease across the room, grab a glass from the rack, and fill it with cold

Suddenly realizing how thirsty I was, I took the glass of water from his hand, briefly mumbling a thank you before pouring the water into my mouth to quench my thirst. The cold water rushing down my throat wa I actually felt much better now.

"I boughtnoveldrama

us lunch," Grey spoke as he took the glass from my hand and returned it to the sink. He then gestured to the unopened food set on the table.

"How long have been asleep?"

"Thirty minutes,” he replied. I gaped at him in disbelief and thought the food would be cold now.

"Why d

didn't you wake me up?" The words gently emerged from my lips. I didn't want to sound as if I was blaming him...

"You were tired and sound asleep. I tried

shaking your shoulders several times, but you didn't even budge. A bomb could drop right in front of you, and you wouldn't even notice it exploding. I stopped trying and let you sleep for a while." Grey nonchalar The scent of food filled the room, sending my hungry stomach into a frenzy. God, I was so hungry I could eat a horse, I thought to myself, eyeing the food on the table

with my mouth watering. I abandoned the chair beside the bed, but before moving to the sofa, I briefly glanced at Mom to make sure she was sound asleep before I finally sat down beside my husband. The food was too tempting to ignore, so I started eating voraciously. Grey had ordered takeout

from our favorite restaurant, and he particularly selected the food I liked. The simple gesture touched me. At least he remembered what I liked to eat, I thought to myself while secretly stealing a glance in his dire Since we were both hungry, it didn't take long before we finished our food.

I started to clear the table, but Grey stopped

me. "Let me do it," he said as he took over the task.

After he finished clearing the table, he sat down on the sofa next to me.

Now that we were doing nothing, the awkward silence in the room returned. I kept my mouth shut since I didn't know how to start a conversation to drive the unnerving silence away

"How are Ash and you doing?" Grey asked out of nowtiere. My head snapped in his direction in shock.
