Chapter 67
Chapter 67
Sofia’s POV
I picked up the blueberry syrup and drizzled a huge amount over the whole waffles, being mesmerized
by the way the syrup slid over each waffle, giving each waffle that was on the top of the whole waffles,
different kinds of designs each. Material © of NôvelDrama.Org.
I suddenly stopped drizzling out the syrup and glanced up at Matilda, feeling a little embarrassed at
being watched having fun from doing something as childish as this, and also because I was starting to
feel like I had squeezed out way too much syrup than she’d approve of.
Matilda had a soft smile playing across her lips, the soft look that had been in her eyes after she had
taken me in her arms when I had started crying unexpectedly— was back in her eyes this time as she
stared at me.
“Don’t mind me, take all the syrup you want. There’s still a tons of cartons of syrup which we’re yet to
open, remember?” She said in encouragement and a smile bloomed out on my cheeks.
“Really?” I asked her and she nodded her head immediately, gesturing back to the plate of waffles
before me and I glanced down at my plate of food, syrup lining every piece of waffles there was on top
of the plate and staining the sides of the plate in different patterns.
I picked up the syrup bottle and squeezed it a little over my fork and once my form was wet with
blueberry syrup, I forked up a piece of waffles and slowly inserted it into my mouth, the warm taste of
syrup bursting out on my tongue and the soft, creamy waffle melting on my tongue almost immediately.
It tasted way better than I had imagined it would be and I forked up another piece of waffle, inserted it
into my mouth instantly. The taste of blueberry syrup was just so exquisite I’ve always been a huge fan
of the flavor ever since I was a kid.
We were not allowed to have too much syrup at home and the house help would only squeeze a little
over our waffles each time we got to have it for breakfast.
My brother had disliked the blueberry flavor and had been completely in love with the strawberry’s
flavor ever since he became smart and could pick between two more things.
I picked up the glass cup of water and stared at it for a few seconds before glancing up at Matilda who
was still staring at me, a far away facial expression on her face and a tiny smile pulling at the corner of
her lips.
“Can I drink some water now?” I asked Matilda who jolted a little as if she just woken up from a little
sleep when she shouldn’t be sleeping.
“Oh, yeah. You can. You like your waffles, right?” She asked after giving me the ‘go ahead’ to get some
water into my body system. My throat hadn’t been hurting all that much anymore but I was still going to
make use of the candy like things for it, just to endure it vanish away completely.
“Yeah, I do.” I replied to her and she smiled brightly at me for a few seconds before turning around and
walking towards the stove where something was currently boiling over one of the faces.
The waffles were honestly really nice, soft and fluffy. And to make everything better, my stomach hadn’t
really hurt anymore after I had started putting food into my stomach. The fact that I had been thinking I
wouldn’t have the appetite to eat right before the waffles got prepared was beyond me, because the
waffles had been going down my throat without any hesitations, settling in my stomach without leaving
any nauseous feeling behind in its wake.
“The waffles are really soft and fluffy and creamy, they’re really nice and I love them.” I said to her
before staring down at the plate before me.
The plate wasn’t completely empty, but it wasn’t as heaped as it was when I had started eating. I had
eaten way more than thought I’d be able to handle, which I was glad about. At least the hungry worms
in my stomach were going to have more than enough food to munch on throughout the night. The
tablets I was going to be making use of tonight were also going to meet enough food in my stomach.
“I see why it’s one of your favorite foods, you really love it.” Matilda started to say as she made her way
towards the counter once again. I nodded once as I pushed the plate away from my front. “I really do.
Thank you for making it for me tonight.” I said to her right before I picked up my cup of water and
downed another sip of water, the intoxicating taste of the blueberry syrup still clinging strongly to my
tongue and I ducked my lower lip into my mouth to lick off the drops of syrup that might have smeared
over it while I was eating.
“Can you please help me check what the time says at the moment?” I said to Matilda just as she was
placing my plate on the top of the sink. I’d have checked my phone on a normal day because my phone
was always with me the moment after I got it… but today was the complete opposite of a normal day—
not that the days after I got married have ever been a normal day, but at least they were better than
today in a way.
“Sure, I’ll be back in a minute.” Matilda replied to me as she left for the sitting room only to return
almost immediately.
“It’s past ten p.m.” She said to me and I nodded my head and thanked her before asking her to please
fetch me some water which I could use in taking my drugs tonight.
She placed the bottle of water on the counter after opening it and pouring half of the content into a cup
and placing it before me.
“Do you need any help with the drugs?” Matilda asked and I shook my head at first but ended up
nodding my head at her and pushing the bag of tablets towards her on the counter. She walked around
the counter until she was on the other side of the counter this time.
She emptied the bag over the counter and my eyes widened a little at the amount of drugs that had
been packed for me.
It was a whole lot.
She started by shaking out the tablets into a pack on the counter, starting from the small shape once
and I stared wearily at everything, wrinkling my nose a little in disgust. I wasn’t a fan of drugs but I
didn’t mind it most times… except for when it gets too much which I was supposed to use at once,
those type of prescriptions disgusts me.
“Where’s Sarah?” I asked her and watched as she paused in what she was doing for a slow second
before continuing almost immediately. “She’s upstairs, it’s already past her bedtime and she just needs
enough rest for now.” Matilda explained slowly and I nodded my head along with her, wondering why it
still felt like something was being hidden from me.
I picked up the small tablets and swallowed everything down at once, washing doen with a mouthful of
water, my throat starting to ache a little the moment I was done.
“Ryan and Ethan left already, right?” I asked Matilda and she nodded her head without glancing up
from what she was doing.
I wished I could see Ryan tonight and thank him profusely for what he had done for me tonight.
I guess I’ll have to see him tomorrow.
I swallowed the second set of medicine which wasn't as much as the first set, washing it down with a
little sip of water and noticing that my throat was staring to really throb at this point, the soreness
increasing moment after moment.
“What about Luca?” I asked in a small voice and purposely picked up the last set of drugs and downed
it immediately, using a mouthful of water to wash it down my throat and lungs.
Matilda was staring at me with a suggestive expression once I was done with the drugs and had settled
the cup on the counter once again.
“He has gone to sleep.” She replied after a few seconds of the both of us staring at each other without
saying a thing.
“Oh?” I asked quietly, feeling a weird kind of feeling floating around in my mind – a kind of feeling I
couldn’t for the life of mine, identify.
“Yeah.” Matilda echoed after me and paused before continuing almost immediately. “You know he’s still
sick, very sick even…”
“Very sick?” I echoed after her as my mind started to race almost immediately.
“Yeah.” He went out today to go get something done, when he was supposed to be resting. He came
back home really tired and drained, but put the thoughts about his health aside the moment he spotted
you laying your back against Ryan’s arm. And then he had lifted you up and… you know the rest of the
story.”
I blinked a few more times, the confusing feeling surrounding my head still not leaving my head for a
moment as I absorbed all what Matilda had said to me despite the fact that I didn’t understand all what
she had said.
