Chapter 19: He Could Not Believe

“Where are you fool?” a deep voice sounded over the phone.

Thomas froze. What’s going on?

“What’s wrong? Hope I am safe.”

“You are not Thomas. Where is Anita?”

“Anita?” he asked back, rubbing his head. He was not ready for such a conversation.

“Where else? She should be at her working place. I’m not going to be walking around her like a puppet right?”

“Shut up! Call her now and check up on her. Something doesn’t seem right.”

“Since you know what is wrong? Why don’t you tell me?”

“Since you want to know, I will tell you. She is in the hands of another man. You better be careful, so as not to lose her.” the man said and ended the call, leaving Thomas in unexplainable emotions.

Thomas didn’t care about what was on desk anymore. Picking up his car key, he stood up and walked out of his office.

“Hello Sir! Why are you leaving so early?” his co team asked him worriedly.

“I am fine Jude. I will be back later don’t worry.”

“I know you will be fine, but…” jude said as he stretched his hand towards the exit door.

Thomas didn’t even bother to hear him out.

Taking a deep breath, he chooses to remain silent and got back to work.

Not up to thirty minutes later, Thomas car pulled up at Anita’s apartment. He sat in the car for sometime as he thought about what he heard.

He didn’t think it was something so possible. Even though he wasn’t so interested in Anita, he knew Anita was a faithful kind of girl.

His only issue was for Anita not to get too close to another man, because it could easily ruin his master plan.

Stepping down from the vehicle, he walked towards the door and started knocking.

KNOCK! KNOCK!! KNOCK!!!

Anita stood up in shock when she heard a knock on her door.

Even Andre had to look towards the door and to Anita at the same time.

“Were you expecting anyone?” he asked her, on seeing her reaction.

Ever since he took her into her house and placed her on her couch, she had not responded to him even though he kept asking her.

He wondered what was it that could eat Anita so bad, but seeing her reaction to his knock, he could tell that she was indeed expecting someone.

“I will get the door.” he said and stood up while Anita watched him with gratitude in her eyes.

Andre opened the door and froze on the spot.

A man?

What was a guy doing there? The thought went through his mind.

Thomas was not having it the moment he saw Andre, so before anything, he threw out a heavy punch, but due to how smart Andre was, he was able to catch Thomas’ first mid air.

Anita froze in shock.

Were they about to fight? She thought and stood up immediately.

“What the fuck are you doing with my woman?” Thomas asked, boiling in anger.

“How come you are fighting me over a woman you don’t value?” Andre asked unfazed. If this was the man in Anita’s life, then she would have to rethink.

Thomas froze.

He was not expecting that response.

Who was this man? He thought.

“Since she is your woman, I should leave her for you to take care of. That’s if you can actually do that.” turning to face Anita, “if this is the man in your life currently, do have a rethink.” he said and walked past Thomas effortlessly with one hand in his pocket.

Thomas had no idea what to do, so he just watched him leave.

After what seemed like forever in that silent space, he came back to his senses and walked into the house.

Looking Anita from head to toe, he sat down and kept a straight face.

Anita couldn’t hide the disappointment on her face as she expressed her dissatisfaction.

“Thomas, you shouldn’t have fought him. You can’t just go ahead and start fighting any man you see around me without confirming his intentions.” he started in annoyance.

Thomas face worsened.

Was she trying to defend him?

Standing up, he walked towards her. “I except you to be apologizing to me for that misconduct. Why were you with a man all alone in this house? Don’t you have any dignity or even an atom of respect for yourself?” he asked, raising his voice a bit.

Anita became dumbfounded at his approach. Why was he picking offense? Andre was only there to help and nothing more.

“Thomas he was only here to help. He is not such a person, besides, you were not there when I was down, but he was. I want you to invite him over and apologize for misunderstanding him.” she demanded, shocking Thomas.

Thomas stood there, not knowing what else to do. He was already so pissed and has to watch his temper, else he might end up ruining things for himself.

Why would she ask him to apologize? On what? How important did she think she was to him?

Rolling his car key in his fingers, he made his way towards the door.

“Thomas I need you now. Why are you leaving? The first moments you walked into this house, you met me with my friend, kate. Why are you not asking about her even after I told you that she is missing. “Enough Anita. There are more things to worry about. Like work and our reputation. Aren’t you seeing that we are making waves? That was what we wanted. So forget about another adult.” he stopped and said to her.

“How could you say that to me Thomas? You are so unbelievable. Maybe this was a mistake. I shouldn’t have agreed to be in a relationship with you…”

“How dare you! Shut up!” he screamed.

Anita froze.
