Anita’s Voice: Behind the Headlines

At First Sight

Chapter 4: At First Sight

“Sir, you were awesome today, what is it you have to say to the people of New York City?”

“Whenever you’re in need of any kind of help in regard to your safety, please do not hesitate to inform we the officers of the law, as we are always here for you.” officer Thomas answered flawlessly.

When Anita and Andre got back to the office, they met with madam cross.

“I’m so proud of you Anita. I never expected you to perform so well. This is like the best Sass Media House has been able to offer since the beginning of this year.”

“Thank you ma’am! I promise not to disappoint.”

“Please don’t! You can have the rest day off! We will meet again tomorrow.”Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.

“God bless you ma’am!” she responded and left for home.

Madam cross looked at her with admiration in her eyes as she smiled.

She just got an asset. She must make sure she treated Anita right, else a higher company would take her away.

Anita got home exhausted. She could not believe her eyes. Sitting on her bed, she thought about everything that had occurred that day. What a world!

People could be really heartless.

Thinking about officer Thomas, she smiled. He was one in a million.

She had never seen an officer so devoted to his works. He was more than a police officer to her.

Kate walked in happily as she pounced on Anita to give her a tight hug.

“You are so amazing girl. Under twenty four hours, you are already all over the TVs in New York City.” she said aloud.

“What do you mean?” Anita asked confused.

“What do you mean by what I meant? I saw you on the TV not too long ago. You were questioning a police officer popularly known as Thomas.”

“Oh yeah! Yes I was.” Anita then said looking cleared.

“Girlie, you really are brave.”

“I had to! It’s part of my job you know.”

“Yea I know. I’m just surprised you went on with it despite the risks involved.”

“I had to! I feel so tired girl. I just want to catch some rest so I can be strong for tomorrow. I have no idea what it actually holds for me.” she said, turning to face the wall.

“OK but how about I make you something to eat. You can have some from the microwave when you wake up.”

“OK..” Anita mumbled as she dozed off.

On the other side, Andre had just come back to the new apartment. He had actually wondered why he was moving towards the same direction as Anita until he saw her entered her apartment.

He was surprised and wondered how he didn’t realize that they lived in the same building.

He wondered if she knew they lived close to each other.

Smiling, he sat down on his sofa as he recalled everything that had happened at the park.

He remembered the police officer. He didn’t know about Anita, but the police officer didn’t look like a good and reliable office of the law, even though he had actually helped those people.

He had gone through life, so when he sights fakes, he was sure to know.

Let’s see how it goes though! He thought.

Thomas sat on his dinning chair as he watched the news in regards to the incident at the park.

He could tell that Anita was a starter by just looking at her.

Despite being new, she was smart with her questions.

This was the kind of woman he needed right at that moment. Smart but fragile.

Sipping his wine, thoughts went through his memory.

Soon, his phone rang. It was an unsaved number, but he knew who that was.

“Hello! My lord!”

“I’m sure you know why I’m calling you.”

“My lord, I think so but you can brief me.”

“That reporter!”

“Yes! I’m watching the news at the moment, but what about her?”

“That girl could be of help to you! Draw her closer.”

“But my lord, what do we need her for?”

“Remember you are in the process of trying to gain a certain standing. If we must not be caught, you will need to be trusted by not only the force but the public.”

Thinking about it, “That sounds like something I should try.”

“But what if it doesn’t work out? She could probably be committed to someone, leaving me with no chance.”

“I already searched her. She’s alone. This is the right time to strike.”

“You are the greatest my lord! I will be sure to get that done.”

“Make haste while the sun shines!”

“I’ll keep you updated my lord.” he then said, hanging up the phone.

Realizing something, he smiled. How come he has never thought of that?

Picking up his phone, he dialed a number.

“Hello!”

“Hi Sir!”

“I need information in regards to the reporter that questioned me today. Her phone number could go a long way.”

“Sure Sir!”

“Make it quick.” He said, hanging up the phone.

He was going to give this a try.

In less than ten minutes, a message entered his phone.

He then smiled.

He decided to give her a few hours, she must be resting after the day’s work.

Anita had just woken up later that evening as she staggered to the kitchen, opened the microwave and took out some food for herself. Anita was about to start eating in her sitting room when she got a call from an unknown number.

She didn’t remember giving anyone her number so to avoid issues, she didn’t pick it up.

The phone rang again, she still didn’t pick.

On the third ringing, she ignorantly picked it up, feeling a bit pissed.

“Who’s this? And how may I help you?” she asked as she tried to eat her food.

The person didn’t answer, keeping mute..

“Hello? Who’s there?” She asked again.

No one answered.
