Chapter 85
I heard this deadly news, and not to my surprise everyone else did too. We all are werewolves, after all, our senses are extraordinary and we can smell trouble from
miles away.
Every eye was trained on Alpha Rambo, and he himself looked a little strained, under pressure. As if there was something he needed to do, which he didn't want to do.
Nathan and Tristan were at my side looking visibly tense, I knew what was going on in their mind and I also knew how to make sure that they were in their right minds.
I took their hands in mine and gave them a squeeze, Tristan was first to look my way, his tightly drawn eyes glowed, making me gulp.
Then, Nathan's gaze met mine and the intensity they held was mind boggling. We needed space. A space where the three of us were together.
Alone.
The moment between was broken by a comment of another werewolf present in the conference.
"What's the next move Alpha? Trouble is on our doorstep and you can't accept us to keep quiet. There are werewolves from different packs around the world present here. Our safety should be your first priority." Alpha's tone was snarky as if he was taunting and accusing Alpha Rambo for being careless.
A ripple of murmurs spread throughout the room. Alpha Rambo gritted his teeth as
he noticed the changing tide of the conference. He already was on the losing verge when he lost the vote of confidence and now this was making him look weak.
And as far as I have noticed Alpha Rambo, he hated losing the most.
He was a typical Alpha, arrogant, moody, and somewhat egoistic.
"This is not only about me or Moonlake Pack. This includes each of us. The rogues are not attacking because they have something against the pack. I am not arguing that they have nothing against the Moonlake pack, they definitely could. What I am trying to say is that the conference is not a secret and people know about this. So it could be a possibility that this is a well-planned attack. The rogues were only waiting for all of us to gather at one place so that they could get what they wanted. We need to keep calm and help each other instead of accusing one another." Alpha Rambo explained.noveldrama
His Alpha aura was glowing and his voice was like a command, and everyone was taking in what he was saying.
Everyone nodded in agreement, but I noticed that something was amiss. The twins were not thinking alike, they had something in their mind. Their hands were fisted, posture stiff and jaw clenched. It was as if they knew something and wanted to say but what?
By the looks of it, they were not even sure.
Before I could ask them what they were thinking I saw Sara coming back and she
was not happy with the way she was treated.
Her face was red and a low growl was bubbling in her throat, I could see her fuming and she was like a volcano.
A raging volcano that could erupt anytime.
Alpha Rambo tooked at us, his eyes calmer than usual and he spoke, "Tristan, Nathan. I would like to ask for a favor. I need warriors on my side, and you are what I need today. I can't let these Rogues take me by surprise. Please take a group of warriors and patrol the forest with them. This would be much appreciated."
The twins' eyes narrowed, and so did mine. It wasn't the patrol that concerned me; it was the sense that something else lingered beneath Rambo's words. His posture was too rigid, his gaze too calculated.
Sara was the first to speak.
"Because you treated us so well that we should repay your kindness by taking up your damn job." She snapped at them.
Nathan's gazev was fixated on Alpha Rambo, as he spoke, "We appreciate that you think we are good fighters and worthy of protecting everyone in the time of distress. But, me and my brother would like to go back with our mate and Sara. There is nothing against you or the pack but we didn't sign up for the war. We came for the conference and we would like to go back with our people. Thanks."
His words were diplomatic but clearly meant that we are going and you are on your own, buddy.
Rambo's expression tightened, but
he forced a smile. "Are you worried about your mate and her sister? There's no need for that. I've prepared accommodations for them. Let them rest here until you
return from the patrol. Then you can all leave together, safe and sound."
Sara's sharp eyes met mine for a moment. She could feel it too - the lie in Rambo's tone. Something was wrong. There was no safety here, no rest. We all knew it.
"We appreciate your offer, Alpha," Lyra said, her voice cold, "but we'll leave now." They turned to usher Ella and Sara out, but the moment they moved toward the exit, a line of Rambo's warriors stepped into their path, blocking the way.
Alpha Rambo smiled apologetically, which we now knew was fake, "This is what I am trying to say. Things don't have to be like this between us. Just do me a favor and everyone will be safe and sound."
"Are you threatening us?" Tristan asked.
"Never. Why would I do that? These soldiers are for caution. And protection. I need help in these hard times." Alpha Rambo raised his hand in surrender.
We knew what he meant. This was a warning. He had an upper hand and Alpha Rambo was not afraid of using it.
A confrontation was bubbling up. Sara was ready to throw things up. Again.
Nathan was no different, but things were.
What do you think?
