Alpha Knight’s Cursed Mate

88

NIRVANA

Knight had been in a meeting all day in his office and another with the alphas in the country. Kailin was also busy assisting him, which left me alone, training the entire day with McKaye.

“You may have the strength, but you need a break. That’s all for the day.” McKaye finally gave up. He’d been barking since we started, my boxing partner and he also received punches and kicks from me.

I was actually exhausted, but I was trying to push my limit. I wanted to train harder and learn faster. There was no time to waste or to idle. The war was already there, and we were not even close to being ready and finding out how to kill that evil.

Luka also trained the enforcers and scouts. I didn’t even know there were enforcers, and these guys were willing to risk their lives to protect their pack. I admired their loyalty to their alpha and their luna.

“I can still take another round,” I insisted, following him to the locker room.

“I know, but we’re done for today.”

“Thanks.” I leaned against the locker next to his.

“You don’t have to thank me. It’s an honor to train you.”

“I’m honored and grateful, Mac. You should know that. Anyway, can I ask you something?”

“Of course, anything.” He stopped before opening his locker.

“What’s his favorite food? Does he have any?”

He smiled. “Knight is not choosy. He eats everything, but he does like pasta with tomato sauce. Basic.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. Pizza, too.”

“Thanks.”

“You’re welcome.”

I showered and left the gym. I headed to the pack house, but my phone rang. The caller came from Shadow.

“Hey.”

“Congratulations.”

“Thanks, but for what?”

“A little birdie told me you and Knight are engaged.”

“A little birdie? Tell that to the little birdie he’s nosy and can’t keep his mouth shut.” I couldn’t help but chuckle.

I still felt the flutter in my stomach, knowing I was engaged to Knight. At the same time, I felt sad and guilty about hiding something from him, even for a good reason. It was still unfair, and it pained me that any day from now, I might lose him, or he would lose me.

Shadow laughed. “He’s listening. The meeting just wrapped up, but Knight is still here, and he says hi.”

“Say hi to both of them.”

“I just told him earlier that I told you so. He didn’t believe he had a mate. He’s just like Califf, actually, too focused on getting rich and running their packs. I’m happy for both of you. If you need help with the wedding prep, call me.”

“Thanks. It means a lot, but aren’t you supposed to be busy with royal and luna duties?”

“It’s no biggie. You’re my friend. I will always have time for you.”

“We haven’t talked about the date yet, but sure, I could use some help.”

“Well, I’m just a call away.”

Zander was already in the car when the call ended while North held the door for me.

“You don’t have to do this.” I got in the car, and my phone just buzzed.

“You’re like our mother.” North shut the door close and went to the passenger seat.

I checked who messaged me. It came from Grandpa.

I dialed his number as soon as we left the pack house. “Hey. How have you been?”

“It’s good to hear your voice, honey. I’m good. I’m with Alexander. How’s everything in the vineyards?”

“Tense, busy, but we’ll live. I wish I could bring you here, Grandpa, but you’re also not safe in the vineyards.”

“Honey, I’m supposed to protect you, and not the other way around, but I know Knight will protect you with his life. I heard what happened. Are you okay?”

I huffed a breath. “I wish you didn’t have to know that, but I’m okay.”

“I can’t believe Dylan’s friend would do that to you. How’s he, by the way?”NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.

“He’s doing fine. I think he wants to join the pack, but he hasn’t approached Knight yet, and he’s very knowledgeable and useful around here.”

“Yeah. He’s good with research, and he has connections. So you found what are you looking for?”

“Almost, but I can’t discuss it with you on the phone. I’m hoping to meet you soon, Grandpa.”

“Me too, honey. Please, take care of yourself.”

“You, too. And, Grandpa?”

“Yes, Vana.”

“Knight just proposed last night, and I said yes.”

“I know.” He just gushed. It didn’t sound like the grandfather who raised me, and it made me laugh. “He asked for my blessings, and he didn’t have to do that because I knew he would take care of you. Congratulations, honey.”

I suddenly felt emotional. I blinked back my tears, but they still fell. I looked away so the boys would not see my face as I wiped my tears.

“You have no idea how he makes me happy, but you know how this ends Grandpa, and I haven’t told him.”

“You don’t have to do that, but it doesn’t mean we can’t win this war.”

I started sobbing, and my heart was breaking. “If I have no other choice, Grandpa. I have to do this. I can’t sacrifice everyone over my selfishness. I love him. I love you and these people. They are my family, too, and I would do everything possible to save everyone.”

“You have to tell him, honey. It might break his heart, but at least it comes from you.”

“I know. I love you, Grandpa. Please take care of yourself. I’ll see you soon.” I hung up the call and wiped my tears.

North offered me a facial tissue. “Are you okay?”

I smiled at him, even if my heart felt like breaking. “Yeah. Thanks.”

I cleaned my face and blew off my nose. “Excuse me.”

“We love you, too, Vana.”

The guys went to their room down the hallway while I went to the kitchen to prepare dinner for Knight. This would be my first time cooking something for him.

Everything happened so fast, and I wasn’t in control anymore. But maybe this was how I should live my life-being free.

Though I had never lived with someone, let alone cooked for him, before I met Knight, and our living situation might have started as an inconvenience, I learned to adjust, and I would do anything to make him happy.

An hour later, I was done with the pasta. I also cooked some chicken breasts that were good for five people. I knew they ate a lot of calories and protein.

Just right after I prepared the table, I heard the door open.

“Nirvana?” My heart skipped a bit just hearing his voice.

“In the dining.”

“What’s that smell? Smells delicious.” He walked in, looking handsome as ever, and always took my breath away.

“I hope you hadn’t had dinner with the alphas.” I tiptoed to kiss him, but he effortlessly lifted and kissed me.

“I miss you,” he said to our lips.

“I miss you, too.”

“You cooked?” He looked surprised.

“Yeah, but I can join the boys if you’re still full. I cooked enough for five werewolves’ stomachs and will reheat it for you later.”

“I’m starving. What do we have?”

“I hope Mac wasn’t playing with me when he said you like pasta, or I swear to God, I will knee his nutsack tomorrow during training.”

Knight chuckled. “I eat everything edible, and I love pasta.”

“Oh, thank God.” I went to the kitchen, and I knew he was following me.

He held me on my hips, wrapped his arms around me, and kissed his mark on my neck. He then whispered, “Or we can skip the dinner and do it later. I can take you to bed and eat you instead.”

“No skipping, big guy. We’re having dinner.”

“I know.” He pressed his lips on the side of my head. “You’re a good cook. You know how lucky I am to have you?”

I turned to face him. “Not as much as I am to have you, Knight.”

I felt my stomach twisting, and my heart was breaking, but I would deal with it later. Right now, I had my man to feed, the man I wished to spend the rest of my life with-the only man I wanted to love, to kiss, and the only man I wished to see before my last dying breath.
