Alpha Knight’s Cursed Mate

81

KNIGHT “We should hurry up. They haven’t gotten that far if they’re on foot.” Kaleb just got back with a rifle over his shoulder.

“Give me a moment.” Zarah closed her eyes as she held on to a bead bracelet. They will be heading north.”

“North? Towards the mountain?”

“Yes. They will probably rest for a while or wait for their contact. I’m sure they’re not working alone.”

“They will be safe from humans. And it’s basically hard to track out there.” I found Zander in the crowd. “Go bring us some clothes, and follow us. Take Maddox and the twins with you.”

“What about us?” Roisin asked.

I took my jacket off and gave it to her. “Stay here with the girls, and don’t leave this place unattended. Contact Uncle Lennox to double the guard in the pack house. The rest will come with me.”

“We’re coming with you.” Shadow looked up at me.

“You don’t have to come.” I couldn’t risk her even if she were stronger. Considering she was also a princess, the royals would come after me if something terrible happened to her.

“There could be more out there waiting for you because they already anticipated this. You need more men, Knight,” Shadow said.

“We’re coming with you. This is our decision. She can help, and I have unfinished business with that bitch,” said Zarah.

“Luka, Mac, you shift and follow their scents. Just be careful. There could be traps in the woods. The rest we will go on foot. Use your ears and your senses.” I turned to Maddox and the twins. “Stay behind me all the time. And if any of you find them, report to me, but do not engage until you hear my order.”

“I’m a good tracker and can help them,” Dylan offered.

“If I found out you’re just your buddies, I will kill you myself. Go with Luka and Mac.”

We began moving on foot while our trackers shifted to their wolves. Kailin went with Zarah and Shadow. Tucker, Fabian, Gage, and Azrel came with me.

“I’ll go ahead, Alpha. I’ll link if I find a good spot.” Kaleb patted my back. “Be careful out there.”

“Stay put.” Tucker kissed Roisin on the lips.

I had to look away when I felt a pain in my chest. I had failed her again and wondered if I deserved to be her mate.

We were on foot, but we used our supernatural speed. We made it out of my territory, but I still couldn’t smell her scent nor those bastards who had her. Despite the moonlight just a few days to the full moon, it was dark out there, giving an advantage to our enemy.Material © of NôvelDrama.Org.

“Keep moving forward northeast, Knight. Her necklace stopped moving, but it didn’t mean it fell from her neck. It could also be they’re resting, or their contact just arrived.”

“We’re going fast. Be careful.” I made my way northeast, leaving Zarah and her group. They could take care of themselves. I connected to the guys behind me. “Shift and spread out. Report if you find something.”

The bone-cracking echoed in the forest. Moments later, paws thudded on the ground, and they spread and headed forward. I was still on foot, agitated and frightened for my mate that they would hurt her, or worse, I would never get the chance to see her again.

But I couldn’t be pessimistic.

“We will fight for her,” my wolf just talked to me.

As adrenaline rushed through my bloodstream, I could feel him coming out, but he had to stay in for a while. Despite my anger and rage boiling inside me, I hung on to something far more important-saving Nirvana. Once she was safe, my wolf could do whatever he wanted for those who had endangered our mate.

I felt my foot barely stepping on the ground, and I jumped over the logs and rocks as I followed the path between tall trees. I could see the two mountains from where I was. Hope rose in my chest as if it felt like an arm’s length.

“They are a hundred yards from your location, Alpha. I have eyes on them,” Kaleb reported.

“I heard you. Stay put as we regroup.” I let go of a shuddering breath.

The guys came to me. Later on, Zarah, Shadow, and Kailin arrived.

“I’m going first with Zarah. I will give you a signal when we need backup.”

“Let’s go, Knight.”

Zarah and I walked towards Nirvana’s location. I could feel my anger brewing, my muscles tensing.

“We’re getting her back. You can do whatever you want as soon as we have her safe. I’m not stopping you. Right now, her safety is our priority.”

“Why did she not fight back?”

“They caught her off guard. She trusted them because they were Dylan’s friends. But that’s not what you’re asking. Am I right?”

“Yeah. Whatever is given to Nirvana or used to drug her has a spell on it to suppress her power. And maybe she was still knocked out and couldn’t teleport. We will know sooner.”

“Alpha, I think they put Luna in the sack,” Kaleb said.

“Motherfuckers,” I grumbled. My wolf became more restless. The muscles on my shoulders tightened with restrained fury.

“What?”

“They put Nirvana inside the sack.” I gritted my teeth in anger. I couldn’t imagine how terrified she was. “They will pay for this.”

“Calm down before you spook them.” Zarah gripped my shoulder.

“I’m truly grateful you’re here. Otherwise, I’d followed my anger and put my people in danger, including my mate.” I breathed deeply and tried to control my wolf as we headed to the valley. Then I caught the scent of my mate.

“Can you smell her?”

“Yes. She’s terrified.”

As soon as we got closer, we walked in discreetly. Phin and his lackeys hid behind the tallest rocks.

“Where is she? She should be here by now.” That was Phin- that motherfucker.

“Just sit down. You’re giving me a headache. You worried too much,” Niko replied.

“Maybe we can take her out of the sack. She’s probably tired. She might need some water,” Kol said. I had a feeling he was just forced to go with them.

“I don’t care. We’re getting paid soon anyway.” Phin looked down at the sack on the ground.

My heart ached. I blinked off as I shared a look with Zarah. When she gave me a go, I showed myself.

The first one to notice me was Niko. He went pale, and I instantly smelled his fear.

“Don’t come close, or I will kill her.” He grabbed the sword and pointed down at Nirvana inside the sack. I didn’t realize he was armed.

He just threatened my mate.

Then you’re dead.

A low growl erupted from my chest as I watched how they treated my mate. I wouldn’t let this one go. I was done playing kind and sympathetic alpha. It was time for me to be aggressive and ruthless.

She must have sensed the rescue was coming and caught my scents. She wiggled inside the sack and groaned. They gagged her, too. Part of me was relieved that she was still alive.

I sucked in an unsteady breath as frustration tore me. “Let my mate go, Phin. I will pay twice the amount you will get.”

I gave them a roof to stay. I took them in as someone desperate for shelter, but they chose the easy money.

“I don’t need your money!” he blurted out.

“I thought we were doing this to get paid.” Niko looked at Phin.

“Shut up.” He glared at him.

I sensed their desperation as tension rose in the air. Fury burned through me. “Looks like you guys have disagreements. Let my mate go. I won’t ask you again. You know I didn’t come here alone.”

“So do we,” Phin said proudly.

I growled. “Then we’re just gonna do it the hard way.”

Before Niko could stab my mate in the sack, the sword pointed down at her and flew away, shocking him. Then, the sack was dragged in my direction. I reminded myself to thank Zarah later.

“Kailin, take care of her.”

“Got it, Alpha.”

Phin was right on one thing- they were not alone. Another party just arrived.

“Now!” I gave my people, patiently waiting for my signal, a go.

My heart pumped hard. My skin burned. My bones began cracking, and I lunged into Phin.

As I shifted into my wolf, my clothes shed a thousand pieces in the air. I landed right before him, and he shifted into a brown wolf.

His wolf was not as big as mine. In fact, I saw the fear in his eyes. But it was too late for forgiveness or mercy.

I didn’t take betrayal lightly. It was in our nature. We could be loyal, but we were also fucking feral.

My throat tightened at the overprotectiveness that surged inside me. They hurt my mate and treated her as some animal sold in the black market when I couldn’t even think of mistreating her, hurting her. They knew the punishment for that. Death.

I was eyeing his jugular. I could see how vulnerable he was right now- I saw regrets in his eyes.

A feral growl erupted from me as I snarled, bared my fangs, and jumped onto him.

Pinning him against the ground, and no matter how hard he tried to get off of me and claw me, I already sunk my teeth into his neck and tore off the flesh from his skin. Blood sprung out like a fountain from his veins.

Phin whined in pain, and I tasted a metallic tangy in my mouth as I spat his flesh out. I watched him bleed with satisfaction until his life left his eyes.

I turned to my side. Niko was dead, while Kol didn’t even manage to shift.

Dylan shifted back, standing before his friend with blood dripping from his mouth. “I’m so sorry, Alpha Knight. I thought I knew them.”

“Alpha!” Kailin called me urgently.

I shifted and ran in her direction. She had Nirvana in her arms.

“Two runners were dead,” McKaye said. “They were at least eight, but I don’t think we have their alpha.”

“No, you don’t.” Out of nowhere, a woman just sauntered and appeared before us.
