Alpha Knight’s Cursed Mate

72

KNIGHT

Nirvana almost had the dagger when Chance woke up. In a blink of an eye, he had his fang on my mate’s neck, his hands locking her arms.

With my heart in my throat, my wolf urged me to come out. I already felt my eyes glowing. The guys growled, ready to attack and rip Chance’s head off.

“Relax!” Archibald became the middleman, stopping us from killing his brother.

Tension quickly erupted in the tomb. I felt their anger everywhere, and my wolf turned feral, about to attack and kill, where his laser eyes focused on the one who had his mate.

“I will fucking kill you and your brother if you won’t let my mate go. You bloodsuckers, maybe fast, but you can’t take us all down in five seconds.” My anger instantly boiled in my blood as I watched Chance’s teeth grazing against my mate’s skin.

“He’s not gonna bite your mate,” Archibald grunted.

“Chance, let her go before it gets bloody down here. She’s not your type, bastard,” Sebastien said impatiently. “We don’t have time for this.”

“Let her go, bloodsucker! Or you will have this stake through your heart.” I was unaware Kailin had a stake until she showed Archibald, who was now glaring at Sebastien.

“I thought we agreed on no weapons.”

“I swear I didn’t know, Archie. I would never break my word,” Sebastien assured him, but Archibald shifted his gaze at me.

“Let my mate go, Archibald. This is your last warning.”

Archibald rolled his eyes. “I hate it when people threaten me in my own home. For fuck sake, Chance, enough with your stupid games. Let Nirvana go, or I will be the one to stake your heart.”

“Sorry, darling.” Chance let my mate go with a grin.

Nirvana ran to me, buried her face into my chest, and wrapped her arms around me. I hugged her tightly and shielded her from the vampires.

“I was just being dramatic. I’m not going to hurt that poor girl.” He grinned wickedly.

“You think you’re funny, asshole?” Kailin was still pissed off. “You don’t know what she’s capable of. One bite from you could kill you instantly, and she’s maybe a human, but she’s a force to be reckoned with, you dicksucker.”

He raised his hands and shrugged. “My apology then. Let’s start over, shall we?”

Archibald shook his head in disappointment. “You’re unbelievable. By the way, apologies for his old antics. Meet my stupid brother.”

I was still furious at Chance, but we had more important things to do than throw a pit at a vampire that could possibly help us kill Cyrius. However, his joke didn’t amuse me. I could still feel Nirvana’s racing heartbeat, and she was still shaken up.

“Don’t ever fucking lay your hand on my mate again, or I swear to Goddess, I will kill you myself.”

“Duly noted, man.” When I thought Archibald was cocky, this guy was a bold son of a bitch.

“It’s Alpha Knight, dickhead.” Luka grunted.

“All right. Enough. Let’s finish what we came here for.” Sebastien cut the tension.

“Are you okay?” I whispered into her. From NôvelDrama.Org.

“Yeah.” She lifted her chin and met me in the eye. “I wanted to punch his jaw, but the dagger is more important than my anger towards him.”

“Nirvana, take the dagger,” Dylan said.

“I’m still itching to claw his neck out,” McKaye said.

“They are not the enemy. Stop with the threats. We may need their help,” Sebastien reminded us. “Now, Nirvana, take the dagger. We have things to do after here, and more infected are dying or joining that son of a bitch.”

“Take it, my dear.” Chance offered the golden dagger in his hand.

“How long have you been in this coffin? You looked like you were not dead.” That was the first thing Nirvana said to chance.

“Before you arrived.”

“What?” Kailin asked, surprised. “But it was sealed.”

“From the front, yes, but not from the back.”

“Take the dagger, Nirvana.”

She nodded and then reached out for the dagger in Chance’s hand. It was in her grasp, but she couldn’t lift, pull, or take it from him. She tried harder, but it felt like it stuck in his palm, which reminded me of something.

“The Excalibur,” I muttered under my breath.

“Thor’s Mjölnir,” said Kailin.

“No,” Chance replied.

Grunted, Nirvana let the dagger and glared at Chance. “You have to give it to me, haven’t you?”

“Yes.”

“Wait a sec. Why can you hold the dagger without hurting yourself?” Nirvana asked. That was an excellent question.

“Remember what I told you about a few people secretly tasked to protect something with their lives, the Keepers? Just like Case, he is tasked and responsible for protecting the key, and I am tasked to keep the journal by birthright, and Chance’s job is to give the dagger to the last female Katzius’ descendant,” Dylan explained.

“That makes sense,” Luka said.

“Well, it’s been an honor having this dagger with me for almost a century and a half since my father passed it on to me. It’s yours now, Nirvana.” He took my mate’s hand and placed the dagger on her palm. “Protect this with your life and use it to do good.”

“Thank you.” She grasped it, and something just activated in the dagger, making her gasp.

“It accepted you. Do you know how to use it?”

She smiled shyly. “I have no clue.”

“Neither do I. You’ll figure it out.” The cocky vampire chuckled.

“Maybe it’s not complicated. You just aim it at the bad guy and stab his heart, right?” She looked at everyone, including me, and they all nodded as if they had no clue either.

“Yeah. Now let’s get out of here.”

“Good idea, Alpha,” Kailin seconded.

We were back at Archibald’s study when Dylan said, that turned our heads at him. “I need your blood.”

“Excuse me?” Archibald didn’t look offended but confused. He looked younger than Chance. I wondered how long it had been since they became vampires.

“What he meant to say is, we need a few drops of your blood and other supernatural beings. It’s a part of the elixir we are working on that might help fight this thing.”

“Oh. So you brought me my poison, and you will take something from me?” Archibald’s eyes were filled with humor at his long-time close friend.

“Just give it to him, Archie, so that we can get out of your hair.”

“Fine.” Archibald grabbed the small tube from Dylan and bit his wrist, dropping his blood into it.

“I’m having some drinks. You can join me if you want.” Chance grabbed the wine bottle with blood and helped himself.

“Thanks, but no.” Nirvana grimaced.

“Is this enough?” Archibald handed the tube full of his blood to Dylan.

“Yes. Thank you. Now, where to next?”

“Archie, keep your phone with you. You might receive a call from me sooner.” Sebastien then turned to me. “What’s on your mind?”

“I don’t know,” I answered, but my eyes remained with my mate.

“We should leave. We need to be in the pub in Inverness in five hours.”

“What’s in there?” she asked Sebastien.

“I’m meeting a friend of mine, Kain. You guys can stay in the hotel if you wish.”

“Hell no. I’m drinking Scotch in the pub.” She was still holding the dagger. “Chance, can I ask you something?”

“Of course, my dear Nirvana.”

I rolled my eyes. Chance saw it, making him smile.

“Can anyone take this from me?”

“Yes. The one who created it.”

“Who?”

“I’m sorry, but I wasn’t told who.”

“Right.” She slipped the dagger in her boot and hid it carefully.

Archibald lent us his SUV. We were all stuffed in one vehicle.

“You guys can take a nap. I got the direction.” Luka volunteered to drive while McKaye sat in the passenger’s seat.

“What if Cyrius was the owner of this dagger?” Nirvana rested her head on my shoulder.

“Why would someone make a dagger that could kill him in the end?” Dylan had a point. “I did not read this in any books.”

“Probably not written on purpose. And maybe not just to kill him, but since Ambrose and he were friends and powerful warlocks, maybe he made it to kill Ambrose.”

“Yeah, right.” She looked at me, shocked. “So this can’t ever be in his hand if he made the dagger. He can also destroy it.”

“Yes. Maybe if he wielded it, the only reason he couldn’t find it is because the witches hid it from him for centuries, and only Katzius’ bloodline can unlock and hold the dagger.”

“Or maybe it’s Katzius’s. Hence, his bloodline can wield it.”

“Yeah. That also makes sense,” Dylan nodded.

Nirvana breathed deeply, resting her head back.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.”

“Nirvana-” I wasn’t finished talking. The tires screeched against the pavement, almost throwing us forward.

“What the fuck, man?” Dylan groaned.

“We have a problem.” Luka’s eyes were transfixed on the road.

“Shit.”
