Alpha Knight’s Cursed Mate

68

NIRVANA

I had to walk out when Knight took the box from me. Dylan knew something more than he let on, and if he went to New York to talk to my grandfather and came all the way here, maybe he really wanted to help, and he could help us fight this war.

I found myself sitting alone in the woods where McKaye trained me. I still had so many things to learn, and we were running out of time.

My hearing caught up. I heard footsteps and twigs breaking.

“Should I leave?”

“No. Sit with me.”

Dylan sat next to me, picked up a piece of grass, and started playing with it. “I’m sorry, Nirvana. This must be difficult for you.”

“You have no idea, and I have no one to talk to.”

“Well, I am here. I know you all don’t trust me, but my only intention is to help you not end this world, our world. If I could trade positions with you, I would already have done so. At least I have nothing to lose, and my friends will understand.”

“How much do you know about the Guardian?”

“Not much. There’s nothing written in the modern books than a children’s version of the spirit of the wolf.”

“An Alaskan alpha gave us a book, but I haven’t been able to read it. It has something to do with a wolf spirit and a woman with the power of a-”

“Thousand wolves? That’s absurd, but yeah.”

“Yeah.”

“Why didn’t you tell your mate? He has to know Nirvana. His support and his focus play an important role in winning this battle. If you and him are preoccupied, we will lose before it starts. I know I don’t have the right to say this, but I suggest you tell him before finding out from someone else.”

“I can’t break his heart. I can’t.” I sniffled when tears filled my eyes. “I love him, Dylan. I don’t think I can tell him right now that we’re behind schedules, and the dead werewolves are piling up, and we can’t do anything.”

“It’s better now than telling him while on the verge of sacrificing yourself to save us.”

“I don’t know what to do anymore, but I promise myself I will tell him. He deserves to know the truth. He deserves a little bit of happiness before I’m gone. All I want is to see him happy before things fall apart.”

“I know it’s hard. I’m so sorry.”

“Thanks.” I wiped my tears with the back of my hand when I suddenly saw a big, robust wolf prowling in our direction. His pace oozed power and authority. His dark eyes focused on me, squinting as if he just found his perfect prey, but there was something more to it. He was showing off.

“Shit. He’s pissed,” Dylan said, backing away.

Then I saw the white color on its underbelly and the black patches that Kailin had told me about. His scents flooded my senses.

“Well, just don’t lick me, and we’re fine. You look handsome for an animal.”

“Wait a minute. You’ve never seen his wolf?”Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.

“Nah. Only in my dreams.”

“You dreamed of him?”

“Yes.”

The wolf stopped and moved his snout an inch to my face, snarling and showing his sharp, large fangs. This should have terrified me, but somehow, I trusted him; he wouldn’t do any harm.

“I should go before he uses me as his chew toy.” Dylan rushed to his feet and ran away.

“What do you want from me, Knight?” I slowly raised my hands and touched his chest and neck. Then he purred, bent his legs, and lowered his body. I cupped his strong jaw and pressed my nose against his nozzle. “This is insane, you know.”

He then nuzzled his nose into the crook of my neck.

I giggled. “Stop it. It tickles.”

As naughty as he was, he licked my neck, the spot where he marked me.

“Ew. Enough, Knight, or you’ll sleep on the floor.”

His reaction was funny. He snorted at me. His snout wrinkled.

I came beside him and hugged him from his back. “You’re such a softie. Do you groom yourself? I mean, who brushes your hair?” I sniffed his fur, and he didn’t smell like a wild animal. He smelled more like a well-groomed pet.

“Maybe I should shower you and apply your body wash on yourself.”

He gave me a whining reply.

“Wait. What do you mean by that? We can’t talk through our link?” I slightly scratched the thick fur on his jaw. “I take that as a yes, but we haven’t showered together, and they said sex in the shower is good,” I whispered the part in his ear. His ears pointed up. His eyes widened at me before he groaned.

I pressed my head against him as I breathed deeply. “You’re a big bad alpha. I can’t believe I’m talking to you in your wolf form. Do you know I dreamed about you twice? And you’re actually handsome even if you’re a wolf.” I laughed at the last part. “If someone sees me hugging and talking to a wolf, they think I’m going crazy. Wait. If there’s a horse whisperer, should it be, there’s also a wolf whisperer.

He grunted.

I kissed him on his jaw before I got up. “Let’s go, big guy. We have a lot of work to do. See you back at the pack house.”

Thirty minutes later, Knight walked towards the living room, came to me, cupped my face, and kissed me harder, even with these guys and Kailin around. He didn’t give a damn about their reactions.

“We’ll do it later,” he said to our link.

I hid my smile, and my inner self rejoiced in anticipation.

“Very well. Call your friends to come. They will stay in the pack house under observation. My pack is my priority, and if any of you pose harm to any of my people, I won’t hesitate to rip your throat out of your neck. Do you understand?”

“Yes, Alpha. I do understand.”

“Make sure they follow the rules of this pack house, and they will undergo screening to make sure they’re not infected.”

“They will follow the rules. I’ll make sure of that.”

McKaye raised his hand. “Luka filled me up earlier. I’m not sure if I should trust them, but I respect your decision, and he seems to know about this virus. Shouldn’t we talk to our friends in Italy about this?”

“I already messaged the Alpha King and Zarah. Alpha Califf gave me a go, but to proceed with caution.”

“I totally understand the safety measure, and we are willing to undergo tests, like blood samples, if necessary.”

“You’re that desperate, huh?” Kailin said.

“Yes. I’m after the bigger picture, the big fish here. I may not have a rank in our pack, and now I’m a rogue, but my intention is good. What we are up against is not just a common werewolf, a human cavalry, or anything we’ve faced before. You should know all those he has infected will march together to infect and kill every last one of us.”

“So they’re linked together to one-”

“Master,” he finished my sentence. “That is why we need a good strategy to make sure Nirvana can get to him.”

I instantly sensed Knight’s worry and restlessness. I linked our hands together and gripped them tightly.

He kissed the top of my head and said, “I should set a meeting with our friends and allies.”

“We still have a problem.”

“Oh, boy,” said Kailin while everyone in the living room groaned.

“What’s the problem, Dylan?” Knight asked irritably.

“Should we open this now?” Luka asked, carrying the package.

“We should,” I stood up. “But not here.”

We ended up back in the office.

“Anyway, Alpha. I texted my friends. They’ll be here in thirty,” Dylan informed Knight. “Back to the sword.” He quickly ripped the box open and revealed the sword wrapped in what looked like an old bed sheet and taped with duct tape. “Sorry about this. I was in a hurry and told the shipping company I was attending a cosplay.”

“You talk too much,” McKaye said, grabbing the sword from Dylan. It quickly fell on his hand as if it had electrocuted him.

“Oh, I should have warned you.” He picked the sword up from the floor and unwrapped it. “It’s only harmless to humans.”

“What the fuck?” McKaye reacted that the sword somehow didn’t hurt Dylan.

“Do the honor,” Dylan told me.

“What should I do?” I asked hesitantly.

“Pick it up, and your instinct will find a way to unlock it. Wait. Did I tell you guys this is not the dagger?”

“What the fuck is that supposed to mean?” Angry alpha just growled.

“Oh, you don’t know?”

“Know what, Dylan?” I was also affected by Knight’s emotions.

“Just pick it up, and you’ll find the answer.”

“Don’t!” they said in unison, except, of course, Dylan.

“Maybe it will hurt you,” Luka said, worried.

“One way to find out.” I picked up the sword by its handle, and the beautiful, intricately designed patterns lit up in a golden hue.

“See. Nothing happened because she’s the only person who can unlock the sword and find the key.”

“What key?” we chorused, eyes pinned on him.

“The key to the dagger.” He rolled his eyes.

Knight groaned in irritation. “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.”
