Chapter 51 : What Are You Afraid of with Me Here?
That night, Wendy had a happy dinner and returned to her room. After reading the textbook for a while, she collapsed on the bed.
In a daze, Wendy heard some noise outside. She turned around and continued to sleep. The next second, the door was opened with a bang.
Wendy immediately woke up and sat up from the bed. She saw Rex standing outside the door. She pursed her lips, put on her shoes, and walked over. There was a strong smell of alcohol on his body. She covered her nose with her hand, “Did you drink?”
Rex’s eyes were burning with a fierce light. He grabbed Wendy and pressed her against the wall. Wendy’s eyes widened as she stared at the delirious Rex, “Why did you drink so much?”
Rex’s eyes were half-closed. He had been suppressing the anger in his heart. His lips moved, and in the end, he punched the wall.
Wendy immediately covered her eyes with her hand. Rex sneered and left the room with another “bang”.
Wendy’s eyelashes trembled slightly and her heart beat wildly. Wendy had never seen Rex like this. There seemed to be too many emotions suppressed in his heart, but what had happened to make him so abnormal?
Wendy had always thought that Rex was a person who didn’t have any emotions since he never showed them on his face. However, ever since she had argued with him last time, it was the first time that Wendy had felt that Rex was a “normal” human. He could laugh, cry, and express his emotions properly. Wendy was just not used to him being “normal”, and she always felt strange in her heart.
Wendy let out a long breath, went downstairs to get a glass of hot milk, and quietly carried it upstairs. She walked to Rex’s room and found that the door was open, so she pushed it open and went in.
But the room was dark and Wendy didn’t know where the switch was. She could only move to the bedside step by step according to her memory. Wendy squatted down and turned on the bedside lamp, only to find that Rex was not on the bed. She put down the milk and looked around. Rex was standing in front of the French window.
The night was dark and charming, the evening lights flashing. He shook the goblet filled with wine, pursed his lips, smiled slightly, breathed, and his every move was flawless in the night.
Wendy held her breath. In the past, she had never felt that Rex had a bewitching side to her. Wendy stood there in a daze, so captivated by the way he swirled the glass that she had forgotten to breathe.
After a long while, Rex came back to his senses and walked over. He seemed to have known that Wendy had already come in, and there was no surprise on his face.
Wendy looked out of the window and asked, “Why did you drink?”
“I just want to drink,” Rex said with a frown.
“Did…… did that punch hurt?”
Rex didn’t say anything, but his furrowed brows gradually relaxed.
“It must hurt. I…… I don’t know what to say, but I can feel that your…… heart is in pain. In fact, you……”
“Wendy, did your mother go to the hospital because of a car accident?” Rex interrupted Wendy.
“What?” Wendy didn’t react in time and looked up at Rex. Why would he ask such a question?
“That’s right. Why are you asking me if you already know?”
Rex gripped the wine glass tightly as if he could crush it with just a bit more force.
“I know.” He said in a low voice.
“What? What did you say?” Wendy did not hear Rex’s words.
“Nothing.”
It was getting dark outside the window. Wendy could see Rex’s smile from the reflection of the window glass. He put down his glass, closed his eyes, and clenched his fists.
Rex opened his eyes and looked at Wendy. There were too many emotions in his eyes, but in the end, they only turned into “I’m sorry”.
The moonlight outside the window lay across Wendy’s hair. She smiled, “Do you know…… that you’ve changed a lot?”
Rex pursed his lips and didn’t say anything.
The night fell and stars twinkled in the sky. The two stood quietly in front of the window and said nothing, but the awkwardness from before was gone.
“There’s hot milk on the bedside. It’s good for sobering up. Drink it while it’s hot. I’m going back to my room. Come to me if you want to say something.”
After Wendy had left, Rex walked to the side of the bed and picked up the cup of hot milk. It was as warm as ever, but he no longer had any desire to drink it.
He walked into the bathroom, poured it into the pool, then lay back on the bed, looking out of the window in a trance.
Wendy, perhaps I should take the initiative to ask you.
The sun slowly rose and the earth regained its vitality. Wendy opened her bleary eyes, yawned, and sat up. She stretched her body and rubbed her sore eyes. Wisps of warm sunlight scattered on Wendy’s body, even her heart felt warm. But when Wendy turned her head slightly and saw the clock on the wall, Wendy’s brain raced.
The minute hand was pointing to eight, the hour hand…… the hour hand was also pointing to eight, wouldn’t it mean that it was forty past eight?
Wendy became busy. She did everything as quickly as she could and sprinted to the door. She saw Clare’s car and Rex, who was sitting in the back seat, slowly rolled down the window, “Get in the car.”
Wendy didn’t think much about it. She got into the car and sat next to Rex. “Clare, step on it.”
“Got it.”
Wendy anxiously looked at the scenery that flashed by and then looked at Rex who looked calm. She asked in confusion, “Why are you so calm? We have already missed the morning self-study and one lesson”
“What are you afraid of with me here?” Rex asked with a smile.
Wendy glared at him, and then saw Clare in the rearview mirror, who was trying hard to hold back his laughter. She suddenly felt extremely awkward.
Rex didn’t come to school very often. Before he could react, Wendy had gotten out of the car and ran into the school.
Rex got out of the car in no hurry and walked into the campus. As he looked at Wendy, who was in a hurry, the corners of his mouth curled up slightly, his smile looked exceptionally warm under the sunlight.
Wendy ran to the door of the classroom without stopping. She tiptoed slightly and saw her head teacher who was giving the lecture at a glance. Wendy immediately withdrew her head and put her hand on the door, but she didn’t dare to push it open.
Just as Wendy was hesitating, the door was pushed open. The headteacher’s big face came into view. Wendy lowered her head and saw the beer belly of the headteacher. Wendy swallowed, raised her head, and put on a smile, “Good morning.”
“I think it’s almost noon.” The head teacher looked serious.
“Really? Then it’s good to see you at noon.”
“Go inside.”
“Oh.” Wendy walked into the classroom and sat down in her seat, feeling relieved.
“Why are you so late?” Daisy asked.
“It’s so nice at home. I just slept a little longer. Didn’t the head teacher ask you about me?”
“No.”
“Oh, that’s good. Will the results of the test be announced today?”
“The headteacher just told us.”
“Really?” Wendy’s eyes lit up.
“Of course.” Daisy tried not to smile and decided to tease Wendy.
“So…… what place did I get in the exam?”
Daisy sighed and shook her head, looking sorry.
Wendy’s newly relaxed heart was now starting to tense up again, “Oh, no way……”
In the next second, Wendy’s pupils widened and her eyes gleamed. She blinked and snatched the results from Daisy’s hand. She was so excited that she couldn’t speak, “This…… this…… this……”
Daisy patted Wendy on the shoulder and said, “I didn’t know that you were so smart. Could it be…… um? Is there any trick?”
Wendy rolled her eyes at Daisy, still in disbelief. After repeated confirmation, she asked, “Did I take the first place? Really?”
“It’s true, of course. Silly you.” Daisy laughed.NôvelDrama.Org © content.
Wendy looked down at the results and smiled, “Not bad, huh? You are third.”
“Oh, sure.”
Wendy took the results and looked at them over and over again. She wondered if she was qualified to work for the Glory Group with this.
“But have you heard that our mayor was in a car accident yesterday?”
Wendy shivered at the mention of the car accident. She pretended to be calm “Really? How did you know?”
“The news, you idiot,” Daisy smiled.
Wendy stopped talking. “Car accident” was a forbidden word to her. If it hadn’t been for her mother’s car accident, the series of things that followed wouldn’t have happened. Was it that she had ignored something? She always felt a little strange.
