Branch One Hundred and Three
Jessica had not yet processed what Xavier was saying before he cut off the call. She was still deep in sleep when his call came through and she was startled awake by his call only for him to say one sentence and cut it off.
“What is he saying?” she murmured to herself as she tried to analyze what he had said.
“Get ready?” she asked herself yawning and waiting for her brain. It could be slow at times.
“Oh, he wanted me to get ready? Has he met with Ethan already? I thought we were spending the rest of the day on the beach for a picnic” she said as he mind wondered all the possibilities that could be behind his statement.
She sighed in a yawn again and laid back down smugling into the blanket. It had been a long while since she had such quality sleep and she was not trading it again for one of his tricks.
A few hours later the door clicked open and Xavier stood in the room. At a glance, he could see Jessica’s body fully covered under the blanket sleeping soundly.
“What are you doing?” he asked in a thundering voice as he marched to where she lay.
“Jessica” he called out to her multiple times shaking her hand violently.
She stirred in her sleep and threw off a portion of the blanket from her body. Her eyes flew open and came in direct contact with his.
“Yes?” she asked confused as to why he was shaking her so much while she was asleep.
“I told you to get ready, why are you still sleeping?” he asked with an expression that made her uncomfortable.
“Get ready for what?” she asked yawning while sitting up. She had had enough rest for now and she was glad.
“The main reason we came here” he started expecting her to catch on. Her expression faced her away that she was clueless to what he was saying.
“We came here so we can sign a contract with Ethan”
“Oh yeah I thought that’s where you were going today?” she asked happily. It made her feel happy that he was getting ahead with his career. The kind of feeling she felt was pride in him.
“He asked to have dinner with you before he can sign”
“With me? I doubt I would be of any help” she said confused. Her quick change in emotions made Xavier feel uncomfortable. How was she doing it so well?
“It doesn’t matter what you think,” he said pursing his lips together. It seemed to Jessica that he was thinking of what to say next.
He did not want to offend her with what he was going to say so thinking twice as hard as he would before speaking was the only option.
“We came here to get a contract signed. The games and outings were fun but now it’s time for business”
‘You thought that was hard and that was what you settled on to say?’ Jessica thought inward.
It was obvious he was having issues expressing himself as he would want to. She understood what he was trying to as anyway.
“I’ll get ready,” she said, pushing herself off the couch and walking to the bathroom door. She stopped at the door and turned to face him. She bent her head slightly and a smile climbed her face.
“My role today is a good wife isn’t it?”
With that statement, she turned to enter the bathroom. Xavier was flustered by her statement. The reason was unknown to him too.
He sat on the couch while scrolling through his phone. After a long period, Jessica emerged. He looked up from his phone briefly to see what she looked like but his eyes could not do a quick survey of her.
His eyes were fixated on her. “What? You don’t like it? If that’s the case I change” She started going for the suitcase to pull something else out of the things he had just bought from her. “I thought this would be nice since you got it for me. Could be good for conversation and all” she rambled on while rummaging through the bag.
“No, you can leave it on. I think you look beautiful in the dress” he said the last comment slipping on.
Jessica felt a blush creep up her cheek. She knew she was deep red by now and she was glad she was not facing him. She began to sniffle and clear her throat to make the redness gone.
“Oh is it?” she managed to say without her voice shaking.
“Em yes” he cleared his throat and tried to dart his eyes away from her figure but found himself failing woefully.
Jessica stood up back. The dress she wore was white and went all the way to her knee. It had a conservative look but gave off a sexy vibe to Xavier.
She packed her hair in a fancy ponytail and put on the minimal amount of makeup she could go with. She put on a necklace she had all the while and an earring that matched. Her final accessory was her wedding ring which sat pretty on her finger.
“Shall we?” Xavier stood up clearing his throat. He needed to get himself under control otherwise he might droll over her.
“Let me just get my shoes and bag,” she said picking out a black shoe and a bag to match.
“I’ll be waiting outside,” he said walking out.
He needed a breath of fresh air and then maybe he won’t be having these thoughts he was having about her.
“Okay,” she said as she moved around the room to pick up the things she needed and put them in her bag.
She got ready and looked at herself in the mirror. She looked nothing like what she usually looked like. She sighed and hurriedly went back out.
Xavier was standing there looking dashing in his suit. As he saw her approach he went to open up the passenger seat of the car and waited for her to come. She stopped in her tracks as her mind mulled over his attitude in the last few days.
They were returning back to Chiachester City. Were things going to be different or was it going to go back to what she knew before Aurora Haven? The thought lingered as she watched him.
