Chater 26
Chapter 26 Misunderstanding the Relationship.
It had been so long since Sierra had enjoyed such a carefree barbeque meal. Benson never liked it. The strong smell bothered him, and he thought it wasn't hygienic, so he always avoided it.noveldrama
She remembered once going to barbeque with Madison, and when Benson picked her up, he frowned as soon as he smelled it on her.
He just drove off without a word, leaving her to take a cab home alone. Plus, he didn't speak to her for three days after that. Ultimately, she gave in and never had barbeque again.
Looking back now, Sierra felt foolish. With every compromise she made for Benson, she lost a little more of herself. She had completely forgotten who she was in that relationship.
"Uncle Theo, thank you so much." She looked up at Theo beside her, her gratitude sincere.
"You've thanked me plenty already. No need to keep saying it." Theo handed her a wet wipe to clean her hands. His voice was deep and magnetic, the kind that could easily captivate anyone.
Sierra lowered her head and wiped her hands carefully.
Benson had often talked about Theo in front of her. Theo was the son of Edward's second wife, born later in life, and Edward was particularly fond of him. Benson would complain that Edward was biased, having entrusted most of the Gray Corporation's assets to Theo.
Yet, Theo was always cold and distant, not close to them at all, and even suppressed Edward at the company. When Benson spoke of him, it always came with resentment and underlying fear.
Sierra had trusted Benson completely and believed everything he said back then, so she avoided Theo whenever they met.
However, after spending time with him these past few days, she could clearly see that Theo wasn't as cold and heartless as Benson had painted him to be. In fact, he was actually a good person.
It was probably thanks to Edward's instructions that Theo had been so
thoughtful toward her.
“What's your phone number?” Theo's deep voice interrupted her thoughts.
“Huh?” Sierra froze, not immediately reacting to his question.
Theo raised an eyebrow and spoke slowly, "Once Aunt Jemima is discharged, I'll contact you."
“Oh, right.” Sierra quickly gave him her number, and her phone rang shortly afterward.
"This is my number. Save it."
Sierra nodded, and when she went to pay the bill, she was surprised to see it already taken care of. She looked up at him, a bit upset.
"Uncle Theo, didn't we agree I'd treat you?"
"You treat. I pay," Theo said calmly, his expression unchanged.
Sierra was left speechless. What kind of treatment was this? He was clearly getting the short end of the stick.
Just then, the waiter approached with a bright smile, holding a bouquet of red roses.
“Sir, miss, you're our 99th customers of the day, so you're the lucky ones! This bouquet is for you, wishing you a happy and lasting love."
Sierra's face flushed red, and she waved her hands quickly, trying to explain. “No, we're not...”
"Thank you," Theo interrupted, taking the bouquet and placing it in her arms. "Let's go."
He then turned and started walking toward the exit, so Sierra had no choice but to hold the bouquet and hurry after him.
“Uncle Theo, they misunderstood our relationship. Why didn't you let me explain?”
What do you think?
