A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 66 Scratch the Heart

“Ranita… I apologize… sincerely apologize… I…” Carl was completely caught off guard by Ranita’s words.

Initially, Carl was hesitant, but Mia convinced him. Besides, he needed a significant amount of money to address some family matters. However, now he realized that he had gained a substantial sum of money but lost his most important partner!

“No need to discuss further, that’s it!” Ranita hung up the phone and noticed the dark clouds outside. It seemed like rain was imminent.

“Ranita, it might rain later! You’ve been busy all day today. Why don’t you go home early and rest?” Olivia paused and asked again, “Your ankle still hasn’t fully healed yet. Let me take you home.”

Ranita was indeed exhausted today.

Just as she finished packing her things, Caleb called her, informing her that she needed to return to Stuart’s Corp because there was a video conference with Nemotube Company that she had to attend.

Olivia listened briefly and disagreed, “Ranita, do you really have to go back to Stuart’s Corp now? Can’t you take a leave?”

“It’s alright. I can manage! You pack up and go home. I’ll go there myself!” Ranita packed her things and left.

Unexpectedly, at the door, she encountered someone delivering something for her – a small package containing a jar of lemon candy with Steve’s note attached on top.Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.

Ranita casually put the lemon candy in her bag while texting Steve, “Can I call you?”

“Ranita!” Suddenly, a familiar voice came from behind.

Caught off guard by Brendon’s sudden appearance, Ranita immediately locked eyes with him.

Brendon?

“Hurry up and get in the car.” Brendon slightly lifted his chin; his sharp jawline seemed chiseled, “What are you staring at?”

Wasn’t Brendon supposed to be picking out a ring with Shannon? Why was he here?

“Mr. Stuart, why are you here?”

“Just passing by!” Although it wasn’t merely passing by, the man spoke coldly, “It’s going to rain soon, and I was afraid you wouldn’t make it in time if you took a taxi.”

Ranita said something meaningful, “That must have been difficult for you, Mr. Stuart!”

As soon as Ranita got into the car, Steve called her back. Perhaps bothered by the ringing sound, the man squinted at her while she answered the phone on her own, paying no attention to him.

“Dr. Pearson,” Ranita ignored him and spoke on the phone herself, “I received it, thank you.”

Lemon candy might not hold much value, but Steve’s intentions were truly kind.

“Don’t be formal with me! As long as you like it!” Steve had just come out of surgery, and his voice was slightly hoarse, “I wanted to deliver it personally, but there happened to be surgery.”

“It’s alright!” Ranita smiled gently, her voice as soft as goose feathers tickling Brendon’s heart, making him feel a tingling sensation.

Brendon squinted at Ranita, who appeared genuinely happy; he didn’t know what Steve had said.

After ending the call, Ranita noticed the man staring at her with wolf-like eyes and asked nonchalantly, “Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Dylan and Steve, both?” Brendon’s voice remained flat, despite feeling an inexplicable bitterness in his heart.

“Mr. Stuart, you must be joking! You should focus on yourself instead of meddling in other people’s personal relationships,” replied Ranita sternly before averting her gaze.

“Forget about Dylan, but Steve is my friend.”

Had he become too involved?

When did Brendon become so carefree and start interfering in his friend’s and ex-wife’s emotional matters?
