A Pigeon Pair: Sweetheart, Let's Get Married

Chapter 22 Whoever Resigns Is a Coward!

Chapter 22 Whoever Resigns Is a Coward!

"Everly, do you know Mr. Maverick?"

Maverick and Jayden both walked out of the elevator. Seemingly puzzled, Neil stopped Everly and

looked at her significantly.

Everly disliked what he had done.

He even behaved as if they were close to each other and seemed to have taken it for granted that she

should let him know whatever she did.

She forced a smile, "I was trying to get the investment of Lamont Group after I returned home, so I

knew him."

Neil looked more surprised. "Really? So you knew that our branch would be taken over by Lamont

Group?"

"It has been taken over, hasn't it?"

"Well, I thought you didn't know."

Everly frowned. She didn't know what to say, so she stayed quiet. Maverick had asked her to follow

him. She didn't want to waste any more time on Neil, lest Maverick is provoked. So she just nodded

slightly at Neil and walked out of the elevator.

However, Neil misunderstood her for what she had done.

Neil hadn't got divorced when he saw her in America.

At that time, he learned that Everly did a good job and Brielle spoke highly of her. To him, Everly was a

typical girl raised up in a water town in the south of China who was good-looking with fair skin.

He asked Brielle a few times to let Everly return home before.

Neil was a veteran of LAL. His cousin was one of the founders of LAL and had a high status.

Besides, he was kind of popular in LAL.

So in most cases, women sucked up to him.

When Everly returned home, Neil had already got divorced. He planned to court her, but he didn't

expect her to be close to Maverick. Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.

It seemed that she was not a good woman either.

He had the intention to court Everly in common ways before. But she seemed to be a woman who sold

her body for a higher position.

He smiled coldly and pressed the button to close the door of the elevator.

'I don't mind having sex with a woman who slept with Maverick.' Neil thought.

'I'm going to have sex with her.'

Everly did not know that a wretched man was scheming against her.

Maverick was standing at the end of the aisle, and his assistant had already disappeared.

Everly hesitated for a moment and then stepped forward, "Mr. Maverick."

As she got closer to him, she found that he was smoking.

There was a window at the end of the aisle, but it was always closed. So, the air was already filled with

a faint smell of tobacco with Maverick's smoke.

"What can I do for you?" Everly asked directly.

Maverick looked at the coat hanging on her arm, and his eyes narrowed as he smoked silently.

Everly didn't raise her head. But she could feel that the smell of tobacco was getting stronger and

stronger in the air.

She knitted her brows slightly, "Mr. Maverick."

Maverick snorted.

Everly was somewhat puzzled. She finally raised her head and looked into Maverick's eyes. Somehow,

she felt that he was looking at her with disdain.

Everly was displeased by the disdain and what had happened at that restaurant the other day.

Even though she knew that Maverick hadn't gone too far, she was still a little annoyed.

She thought of her bra strap and his big palm on her shoulder...

Everly finally couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Maverick, let's cut to the chase. Don't stare at me like that."

"You're hostile towards me," Maverick said firmly.

Everly didn't hold back anymore. To be honest, she didn't think that only she was to blame for what

happened between her and Maverick.

Anyway, it took two to tango. So there was no need for her to walk on eggshells.

"Mr. Maverick, you're wrong. You're the one picking on me, aren't you? After all, you lost face because

of me."

Surprisingly, Maverick wasn't angry about her boldness. He smiled faintly and took a puff of his

cigarette. "Is that so? Well, it takes one to know one."

"What are you trying to say?"

"Do you know which position you've been assigned to?"

"I haven't been informed by the Personnel Department."

Maverick looked at her and dusted off his cigarette. "You don't need to attend the meeting later. Wait for

me in the underground parking lot in half an hour."

After a pause, he asked, "Can you drive?"

Everly subconsciously said, "I was in the United States before, so I have no driving license in China..."

"Why don't I need to attend the meeting? Why should I go to the parking lot?"

"From now on, you are my personal secretary. Get your driver's license in China. You will have to drive

someday."

Everly was shocked, "What? I'm your secretary now?"

"You don't want to be?"

Maverick had been trying to suppress his inexplicable anger since they were in the elevator. Suddenly

he found a vent. He couldn't help but say something out of his character.

"You must be quite reluctant to part with Mr. Neil, right?"

Everly gave no reply.

"He looks just like a dead dog. Is this your taste in men?" He held her up to ridicule.

Everly finally took a tumble.

She was annoyed by his words. The coat hanging on her arm was like a hot potato burning her skin.

She was angrier than shocked.

She wanted to curse him, but words wouldn't come out of her mouth.

Maverick looked at her with a sour smile through the white smoke. She felt as if her throat was blocked.

As she finally spoke, her words turned out to be deviated from what she had expected.

"It has nothing to do with you. Now that you look down on me, why did you choose me as your

secretary? Is this your taste? Unbelievable!"

Maverick stopped smoking.

His eyes darkened.

"Don't you want to prove your competence? I'll give you a chance."

Everly raised her eyebrows and said, "Thank you for the opportunity, Mr. Maverick. I will not let you

down."

Maverick smiled coldly, "Miss Everly, hold that thought. I'm afraid that you might quit the job for not

being up for the challenge."

Provoked by his words, Everly gritted her teeth. "Mr. Maverick, don't worry. I am tough and patient."

Still annoyed, she added after a pause, "Whoever resigns is a coward!"

Maverick put his cigarette out and threw it into the trash can at the end of the aisle. Before he left, he

glanced at Everly again, seeming much happier.

"Miss Everly, can't you live without a man? A middle-aged man like him won't satisfy you."

...

Everly didn't recover from anger until he walked away.

And she finally realized that Maverick was talking about Neil.

Her face turned red out of anger!
