A Naive Bride for the Sophisticated CEO

Chapter 31: Breakfast with James

Chapter 31: Breakfast with James

Amelia was done preparing breakfast, and she served it out on a white ceramic plate.

She put some of the crumbled eggs on one side of the plate and the ground turkey on the other side.

She placed it on a white tray and smiled widely as she stared at the food. She had tasted it, and she believed he was going to love it.

She filled the glass jug with water and put a glass cap in the tray too. She headed out of the kitchen and walked to the dining table.

She lifted her feet carefully so that she wouldn’t spill anything. She got to the dining table and looked up to see James seated already.

Next to him was the woman that came home with him last night. She stopped in surprise and stared at both of them.

‘Don’t tell me you want me to feed her too.’ She thought.

“What are you waiting for? Serve the meal,” James said, and she bounced her head slowly.

She placed the tray in front of him and looked at the woman again. She looked truly beautiful and classy.

“Why is there just a plate? Make another one.”

Amelia gulped hard and nodded again. She turned to leave and briskly walked back to the kitchen.

Her heart was beating very fast in rage.

‘What does he take me for? Why would I serve his slut too?! We are supposed to have breakfast together!’

She held onto the kitchen table and clinched her jaws angrily. She remembered the points she read online last night and said to herself,

“Do not complain, Amelia. Discuss.”

She rolled her eyes and went on to serve the other plate for his woman.

“Like he would want to listen to what I have to say,” She mumbled sadly. Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.

James picked his spoon and scooped some scrambled eggs. He took it in his mouth and began to munch.

He raised his eyebrows, showing how impressed he was with the taste.

‘Who would have thought she could be so good at cooking?’ He wondered with a smirk.

“Do you want me to feed you?” Julia, the woman that sat next to him asked.

He stopped munching and looked at her with the corner of his eyes.

“Did you hear me say anything?” He asked, and she chuckled, shaking her head.

“I just want to…”

“Don’t think about it. Don’t overthink this, okay? I have my reasons for letting you sit at my dining table. Don’t feel special,” He responded coldly.

“Who wouldn’t feel special? Your wife is about to serve me breakfast. I’m super excited.”

James arched his brows and shot her a deadly look. ‘This is why I hate some women.’

“Get up.”

“What?” She knitted her brows.

“I said get up!” His voice grew louder and fiercer. Julia hurriedly stood up, looking extremely confused.

“What did I do wrong?”

“Get out.”

“James, I…”

“Get out. I should have let you sit here in the first place.”

Julia swallowed hard and stood up. She adjusted her gown and picked up her bag.

“If you keep acting like this, no one is ever going to love you, James.”

“I don’t care. Get the f**k out of here.”

Julia stormed out of the dining room and out of the mansion.

“Foolish girl,” He mumbled and kept eating.

Amelia walked out of the kitchen with another tray, arranged the same way she did to James’ meal.

She got to the dining table and looked up to find out that the woman was nowhere to be found. She stood next to the table and looked around the living room.

“Why are you standing there?” James asked, without looking at her.

“I prepared the meal already. Where is she?”

“Who said the meal was supposed to be for her?”

He lifted his head and looked at Amelia who was extremely lost. He knew what he was doing.

“But, you said I should…”

“If you don’t want to eat, it’s fine. You can return it to the kitchen. It’s not like I care anyways,” He butted in coldly and took a sip from his glass cup.

‘So he sent her away already? The meal is for me, not for her! He wants me to eat with him.’

A smile crept up her face as she placed the tray on the table and sat directly opposite James.

She took a peek at his plate and saw he had almost finished his meal.

‘Should I ask him if he likes it? But it’s obvious he does like it, I don’t have to ask. But, I was told to discuss anything with him, right?’

James noticed she was staring at him, so he raised his head and looked at her face.

“What?”

Amelia shook her head and quickly looked away. She picked up her spoon and began to eat too. She felt so proud of herself.

She lifted her head after a few minutes again and saw James was done eating.

He began to drink water, and she couldn’t help but stare at his neck endlessly. The way his Adam’s apple rose and fell was so sexy.

James dropped his glass and looked at her. She hurriedly looked away and faced her meal. James rolled his eyes and stood up.

Before he could walk away, she summoned the courage to ask him the question she was dying to ask.

“Mr. James, did you like the food?”

James turned his head and looked at her, without uttering any words. Amelia regretted she asked him in the first place.

“Where do you know Elena from?” He managed to change the topic. He was never going to admit he loved the food.

“Oh. I met her at the apartment my uncle got for me when I started working at the company. She is my only friend.”

“Seems like you have lost your only friend now. I don’t want you to speak to her anymore. Stay away from her.”

“What? Why? She has never done anything wrong to me. She is one of the few nicest people in my life.”

“I don’t care and don’t expect me to explain why I don’t want you to stay away from her. You are in my house now. I will tell you what I want and what I don’t want.”

Amelia lowered her head sadly and bobbed. She wanted to know why he hated her so much, but he already warned her not to ask why.

‘Elena is so nice. What could she have done to deserve such treatment from him?’ She wondered.

“And come and get your things out of my room. I don’t know what you were thinking in the first place. That we would sleep on the same bed, like normal couples?”

He scoffed and tucked his hands in his shorts before walking away. Amelia heaved a sigh after he left, and she kept eating.

‘I need to ask Elena what really happened between them. I am going to visit her whenever I can.’

She knocked on James’ door and waited for him to tell her to come in.

“If you are here for your stuff, come in and pack them. I’m sick of seeing them.”

Amelia opened the door and walked in after hearing his statement. She carried all of her luggages at once and headed out.

While she did it, James paid no attention to her. He was busy checking out the performance of his casino in Florida.

Amelia wanted him to notice her at least, but he paid her no attention at all.

She got to her room and pulled out her parents portrait and placed it on the lamp stand. She also picked up a jotter and pen.

She wrote down the points she got from the internet and stared at them again.

She felt she was beginning to get to his heart slowly since he liked her meal. She also didn’t complain and it seemed to go well too. She decided to make her list her guide in dealing with James.

She ticked the first point and moved on to the second. ‘Focus on the positives.’

“I think I can do this too.”

Her phone began to ring. An unknown number was calling. Amelia fastened her brows as she stared at the number.

She answered the phone and slowly moved it to her ear.

“Hello.”

“Hey, Amelia. It’s Elena. I got your number from your uncle Freddie.”

“Elena…” Amelia raised her eyebrows and smiled. “How are you?”

“I’m fine. And how are you? How was last night?”

“Last night? Nothing happened last night, Elena. I don’t want to talk about it,” She responded sadly.

“Sure. I won’t talk about it either. I just wanted to check up on you, to know how you are doing.”

“Thank you so much, Elena. Can I ask you something?”

“Sure. What’s it?”

“Can you tell me what happened with Mr. James when you were still his secretary? I want to know why he was so pissed when he saw you.”

After Amelia asked her question, the other end of the line went dead silent. She creased her brows and looked at her phone screen to check if it disconnected already, but it wasn’t.

“Elena, are you there?” She asked again, and the next thing she heard was her sniffing.

“Yeah. I’m good.” Elena’s voice turned shaky, and this made Amelia worried.

“Hey, what’s wrong? Are you crying?”

“I didn’t want to tell you about it because I hate remembering that incident. I have never told anyone about it.”

“Really? Is it that bad?”

“It’s very bad, Amelia. Sometimes, I wish I had died after it happened.”

“Oh my God. I’m so sorry for bringing it up, Elena. You don’t have to talk about it if it hurts so much. I was just curious.”

“No…” She sniffed. “You are my friend, Amelia. I’ll tell you about it, but I can’t say it over the phone. Can I visit you?”

“Erm, no. I don’t think that is a good idea. I’ll come to your apartment instead. Expect me tomorrow. Thank you for wanting to tell me this. I promise your secret is safe with me.”

“Okay, Amelia. We’ll talk tomorrow.”

Elena hung up the call, and Amelia dropped her phone sadly.

‘He must have done something horrible to her. Why does he like to treat anybody like he isn’t human too? I must find out what he did to her.’
