But Carrie’s bravado soon faded within a minute. She began to panic again and ramble on, “Say, Maddie, Jackson won’t sue me, right? Will he send me to prison? You have to protect me!”

Carrie knew how ruthless Jackson could be. He could be endearingly sweet, but he could also tear one to pieces once

he unleashed his ruthlessness.

Madelyn chanced a glance at Carrie. “How badly did you beat her up?”

Carrie fell silent.

“You nearly beat her to death,” Madelyn said.

Carrie’s chest tightened. “What should I do?”

“You’re finally scared now, huh?”

Though Carrie was bold, she knew she was in serious trouble.

“The safest way is to go abroad and lay low for a while.”

“Huh?” Without much thought, Carrie instantly blurted out, “But I’m really busy right now!”

She was swamped with work and still had several drafts to complete.

Madelyn sighed. “Do you think Jackson will let you stay at the company?”

Carrie fell silent. She nearly beat his mother to death, and him breaking up with her was just the start of her repercussions She’d eventually lose her job.

She decided to heed Madelyn’s advice. Now that Sophia was still hospitalized, she had to flee before Sophia could make a

move.

“Would Jackson spare me if he found out that I went abroad?” Carrie suddenly asked.

“He won’t spare you no matter if you go or not.”

“Then I’d better hide.”

Recalling Jackson’s menacing expression earlier, Carrie shuddered. He seemed like he wanted to strangle her to death.

Hiding was her only option now!

While they were discussing, the door to the private room suddenly opened. The people who emerged were flabbergasted by the chaotic scene in the hall.

To Madelyn’s surprise, Amelia and Elena exited the room with another woman whom she also recognized. It was Danielle Brown.

Amelia didn’t notice Madelyn. Giving no heed to the mess in the hall, she took Danielle’s hand and said, “I’m counting on you to help Elena out, Mrs. Brown.”

“Don’t mention it, Mrs. Garcia.” Danielle smiled, casting a suggestive look at Elena.

As Carrie watched them leave, she whispered in Madelyn’s ear, “She’s sucking up to Mrs. Brown for the sake of a love child?”

“Watch your words.”

Carrie still hadn’t learned a lesson from her plight earlier. Sheepishly, she fell silent.

Still, she continued one minute later, “Your mom has a great daughter at home, yet she prefers to flatter another bitch. She’s really something else.”

“Don’t you know I’m very stubborn?”
