“You’ve hit at least ten women a year, if not 100, haven’t you?

I’ve never seen you so panicked before!” Madelyn quipped, interrupting Carrie’s rambling.

Beerie gobbled up the hay in Madelyn’s hand swiftly. Its adorable antics melted Madelyn’s heart.

Just as she was about to reach out and grab another handful for Beerie, Carrie cried out, “I hit Jackson’s mom!”

Madelyn was speechless. She froze, her mind buzzing with the shock of what Carrie had done.

Inhaling sharply, Madelyn grabbed a handful of hay and fed it to Beerie.

“Where are you now?” she questioned solemnly.

“Cosilk Café. Hurry up and come over now! She’s bleeding a lot, “Carrie urged, panic palpable in her voice.

This was Madelyn’s first time sensing that Carrie had other emotions other than her usual recklessness. She sighed.

“I’ll be there right away.” She hung up promptly.

Sensing that Madelyn was about to leave, Beerie snuggled up to her. It was unwilling to part with her, and she also felt the same. But Carrie was in deep waters now.

She soothed Beerie and left quickly.

Andrew and Wilson were in the middle of a discussion when

Madelyn came over.

Surprised, Andrew asked, “So soon? Aren’t you going to stay with Beerie a bit longer?”

“Something happened to Carrie, so I have to go to her right. now. Take your time with Mr. Yarrow. I’ll be back in a while.”

“Is it serious?” Andrew asked with a frown.

“No,” Madelyn replied.

Though it was actually serious since Carrie hit Jackson’s

mother, she couldn’t tell him that.

Andrew handed her the car keys. “Drive safe.”

Nodding, Madelyn took the keys and left.

Ten minutes later, Madelyn arrived at the address Carrie sent her. Carrie’s car was parked outside.

Madelyn darted up the stairs while the patrons upstairs gradually filed out. Murmurs rippled through the crowd.

“I’ve never seen such a formidable woman. You still had the

nerve to watch! Aren’t you worried that the chair will strike you?

Looking apprehensive, one of them patted their chest and said, “Although she went too far, the old woman certainly deserved

it after what she said.”

Madelyn got the general idea of the incident through the hushed conversation.

When she arrived on the second floor, it was a mess. The

server hid behind the bar, cowering in fear.

She immediately spotted Carrie. She looked nothing like her professional self and resembled a pitiful, wronged lady instead.

Carrie was tugging on Jackson’s sleeve, sobbing. “I’m sorry! I really didn’t know she was your mother. I didn’t mean it!”

Madelyn was speechless. Carrie truly was a great actress.

Meanwhile, Jackson looked grim. They were the only people left at the scene. Noticing the palpable bloodstains, Madelyn knew Carrie had gone all out.

Jackson glared at her and hissed, “It’s over between us.”

With that, he turned and left. He didn’t even pause when he passed Madelyn, looking menacing.

Carrie was stunned, but a flicker of understanding crossed her

face.

She saw Madelyn and wiped her tears off hastily. Not a hint of aggrievement could be seen on her expression anymore–she looked downright audacious.

“Even his mom doesn’t have the right to insult my mom!”

Madelyn sighed and went up to her. “I’ve already told you that Mrs. Sinclair isn’t someone you can mess with!”

Carrie fell silent. Madelyn was still thinking of how to comfort her when she suddenly blurted out disdainfully, “So what if it’s over? As if I’m going to miss him! He came to me first, and it’s not like I groveled for him.”
