Ethan’s Vengeance of Love

Chapter 130

Chapter 130

But when he witnessed the way she pulled a prank on Bruce and made him embarrass himself in public… Ethan felt that all the disgruntlement that had been accumulating in his heart since they registered their marriage had evaporated in an instant.

Still, he narrowed his eyes and watched as Bruce hobbled toward the exit slowly. He knew that Alice had always kept a clear line between love and hate, so he reckoned that she wouldn’t have treated Bruce this way if he hadn’t provoked her first. Therefore, there was only one possibility—Bruce knew that Emma wanted to drug Alice, or maybe, he was an accomplice to that scheme.

Have I been maintaining such a low profile for so long that any Tom, Dick, and Harry have the nerve to walk all over my woman?! It looks like I have to do something about this later, he mused.

Alice turned to him and was stunned when she caught him smiling. When this man smiles, he looks… cute and eye-catching. But what’s the point of a man looking so cute?

Nonetheless, she was touched when he said ‘well done’ to her.

For the past seven years, in order to keep the company, protect her brother, and avenge her parents, it was destined that she could no longer be the gentle, innocent, and carefree girl living in an ivory tower. In contrast, she had to get out of that tower and become her own knight in shining armor. Thus, she would often resort to somewhat shady means to achieve her goals.

She was aware that many men disliked ruthless women, so Ethan’s compliment took her by surprise. She didn’t expect that he would express his approval instead of reprimanding her for being so unladylike.

“Your father told you to come, right?” It was uncommon for her to chat casually with him in public. “Sorry to trouble you.”

Trouble? Ethan repeated in his head and couldn’t understand which part was troublesome for him. However, that didn’t affect him from making use of the subject for his own means. “So, you know that it’s troublesome for me, huh?” Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.

Last night, he asked for advice from someone, and they told him that he should display the right amount of vulnerability in front of a woman because that would make her feel sorry for him!

Alice blinked in disbelief. She just said that casually and wasn’t expecting that Ethan, who was said to be brave and capable, would admit that this was genuinely a hassle for him! Somehow, she found this unbelievable, but when she looked at him now, she felt inexplicably at ease. Goodness, something is wrong with me today!

“Are you going to make it up to me?” Today, Ethan was different from usual; he might have slathered a few layers of powder on his face before leaving the house today and ended up with skin thicker than usual. Whatever it was, he sounded very natural when he spoke.

“How should I make it up to you?” She tilted her head and blinked a couple of times at him. The calm and rational Alice felt her heart soften for just a second and fell right into someone’s trap.

“Are you going to compensate me as I want?” He was surprisingly good at taking a yard after getting an inch, and something else incredibly important was still on his mind— although they were legally married, he was still sleeping in a room by himself!

Even though she didn’t know what he meant by this so-called compensation, she could sense danger lurking in the air right at this moment.

Why was I soft-hearted earlier? What has it got to do with me that he’s in a little hassle? No, this is no trouble for him. A person like him wouldn’t go through something which he finds troublesome.

“I take back my words.” Alice figured that he was pretending to be troubled and vulnerable on purpose, and she seemed to have fallen for it.

She almost forgot that this stoic-looking man was actually malevolent than anyone else. As the saying went, ‘Stop when you see fit and don’t go overboard’. Clearly, Ethan had forgotten about this earlier, and now, he had far exceeded his limit.

“Are you going back on your word now?”

“Yeah.” She had just fallen into his trap earlier, but now she was going back on her words?

He was more dismayed than words could describe. How could he lose his welfare in a matter of seconds? “I can compensate you, too.” Not one to give up easily, Ethan was unwilling to watch his ‘prize’ slip away so easily.

“Mr. Knight, there are various schemes, some are complicated while others are unimaginable. I’d advise you to be kind,” she said, giving him a half-smirk.

Even though she didn’t quite understand exactly what he meant by his so-called compensation, she felt that he had changed his approach today as he tried to set her up with different requests. Did he really think that she couldn’t tell what was happening?

He felt as though the cat had gotten his tongue as he thought, Little Fox is too cunning and not easily fooled. That’s just as well. Even I can’t fool Little Fox, not to mention others, then. How did the rumors of her being dumb start? If she’s dumb, I don’t think there are many smart people left.

When he caught sight of the smug, you-can’t-fool-me look on her face, he couldn’t help but chuckle softly. Ever since they had gotten hitched, she had been building a wall between them. She wouldn’t pry into his personal affairs, nor would she ask about the Knight Family. Of course, she would never allow him to cross the line, either.

Finally, he felt a crack in that wall because neither did she have her guard up against him nor did she go out of her way to avoid him.

This was a big step, and he was very satisfied with this change.

At long last, Bruce left the room, and Elijah entered the banquet hall together with Charles and Sophia.

When Alice looked at Elijah and Sophia, her eyes dimmed, and she leaned closer to Ethan, whispering, “Don’t let the Wolands find out that we’re married, including my grandfather.”

Although it was written in the agreement that she signed with him that they were not announcing their marriage, Ethan was forced to attend this party today because of Lawrence. So, she was worried that he would mention their marriage to the Wolands. After all, they were only hiding their marriage from the public and the Wolands were still her family in name.

She knew better than anyone how shameless the Wolands could be and didn’t want to give them any chance to leech themselves on the Knights. Furthermore, her next plan was to have Elijah engaged in a dogfight with the Yeager Family. That way, she could find the evidence that they caused the death of her parents back then. If the Wolands learned that she was married to a Knight, they would place all their efforts into taking advantage of the Knights instead of fighting against the Yeagers.

Ethan’s relaxed brows knitted into a knot. What does she mean by this? Just a few seconds ago, he thought that she had let her guard down against him. Yet, a few seconds later, she would say something like that. Can’t she live through a day without making me upset?

Then, he recalled the advice he received from the person last night. That person told him to listen to his wife’s words, anything that his wife told him not to do, he shouldn’t do it, even if she was in the wrong. No, my wife cannot be wrong. Everything she says is always right. Hence, he let out a heavy sigh and said nothing in protest.

“The people in the Woland Family are not my family,” she added softly.

In the past, she had never said something like this to someone else because many were used to judging others morally. Thus, if they heard something like this, they would always call her names and hurl abuse at her, saying that she was an emotionless and heartless robot. Perhaps she had never thought to curry Ethan’s favor, so she was exceptionally honest when it came to some things. In addition, they were only going to be married for a short period of time, this marriage wasn’t going to last.
