Alpha Knight’s Cursed Mate

102

NIRVANA

“Who demanded to talk to you?” I watched Knight get up from bed despite me still wanting to spend a few minutes more with him, but right now, duty came first, and sometimes, it was annoying.

“No clue.” He went to the bathroom. “Aren’t you coming with me?”

“You go first. Whoever is it, he wants to talk to the alpha.” I dragged myself out of bed and followed him to the bathroom. I grabbed my toothbrush and put in a good amount of toothpaste. Then I brushed my teeth.

I was still waiting for him to get his anger out of his chest. What I did was reckless, but it was successful. I still felt he wanted to say something to me, and the more I waited, the more I felt like he was banking emotions in his chest, and it was kind of scary.

I wanted him to yell at me, but not like this cool alpha when he wasn’t.

“I’ll make it up to you.” He kissed my forehead.

I blinked at his gesture, spat the toothpaste, and cleaned my mouth. “It’s not a competition. I wanted to make you happy. I’m not good at many things like romantic gestures, and I did what I did to give you pleasure.”

There was something in the way he looked at me that made me feel wanted and made me squirm.

“It was you expressing your apology, making it up to me because you thought a blowjob could rectify your actions.”

I playfully hit him in the arm. “It was nothing like that. I did it because I love you. I don’t do that to make things right, asshole.” When a small smile curved up his lips, I glared at him. “Jerk.”

“I love what you did anyway.” He leaned in, whispering in my ears, goosebumps erupting on my skin. “I’ll eat you later.”

Once he left, I freshened up and changed into new clothes. I slipped the dagger back into my boot and went downstairs. I hadn’t seen Kailin, but I already heard her loud and angry voice.

“What’s going on?” I instantly saw the cold-blooded killer in the living room. He was the definition of a tall, handsome, but deadly in a fine suit. “What is he doing here?”

“Ask him,” Kailin snarled, stomping out of the living room. Knight, on the other hand, was pissed off about something. His muscles were clenching as I held his arm.

“This is Dane Colin,” Victor introduced him to me. We decided to let him stay with us for a night. Considering we still woke up and were not lying bloody in bed, he seemed to have been true to his word about working with us.

The man didn’t even move a muscle, but a single word. “Luna.”

“And?” I focused on Victor.

“He’s here looking for me when he hadn’t heard from me after the encounter.”

“And what shocking is, he and Kailin seem to be-” Knight hadn’t finished his words. I was already giggling.

“No way!” I widened my eyes at him. My smile was ear-to-ear. Then I turned to Dane. Damn, even his name was beautiful. “Dane, congratulations!” I grabbed his big hand, shaking it even if he hadn’t offered it to me.

His only reaction was his restraint and unapologetic confusion. He was really cold and distant. Emotionless.

“You can’t continue keeping that up, dude.” I pointed at his face. “Kailin is my best friend. And I know what you do for a living. Whatever your reason for why you do what you do, and no matter how good you are at what you do, you can’t keep your emotions locked up in the Arctic, or I will rip your heart out of your chest and pump it up with my bare hand so you can feel something.”

I raised a brow when he clenched his jaw and narrowed his eyes at me. “Good. Now, we’re going somewhere.” I looked at my mate, who seemed tense. “Entertain our guest, will you? I’m going to check on my best friend.”

I left Knight with the two most dangerous persons in the living room. When I couldn’t find Kailin in the kitchen, I went outside. She was there plucking some flowers in the backyard.

“Not the Hydrangea.” I watched her back stiffen.

When she turned around, her face was red in anger. “What on earth was that?”

“I wish I had an answer, K. Tell me what happened?” I went to her and held her arms. I let her see right into my eyes, showing her I was there for her.

“No. This is not happening,” she said stubbornly, frantically shaking her head.

“Knight said he’s your-”

“Don’t ever say that to me. He. Is. Not. My. Mate.” She jabbed her finger at my face. “It’s my stupid wolf who’s desperate to find her mate, but I won’t accept him. Not him, Vana. I don’t want someone like him. He’s a goddamn murderer. A killer. And he almost killed you.”

“I could have killed her weeks ago if that was my order.”

I turned around and heard his voice behind me. For a killer, he looked damn good in a suit. I mean, yeah, he could model at Tom Ford. His posture was strong and straight, with his hands stuffed in his pockets.

“We’re not asking for your opinion, Jack the Ripper.” I’d never seen Kailin so mad. I wished I knew what was going on.

“What did you do, Dane?”

“I did not do anything, Luna Nirvana. She doesn’t like me, I don’t like her. That’s all.”

“Well, I hate you, asshole! You’re a bloody murderer! I don’t want you to be my mate. I’d rather die than be-”

“Shut up, Kailin!” Shit. I just yelled at my best friend. I didn’t want her to do something drastic that could hurt them terribly. She might be in denial right now, but I didn’t want her to regret her actions. “Don’t make any rush decisions while you’re angry. You won’t say such thing like that to your mate, and you can’t change that fact that was already written.”

“Well, I don’t want a mate. And I’m leaving.”Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.

I grabbed her arm before she could walk away. “Stay. That’s an order, Kailin.”

“You’re not my alpha. You can’t order me around.”

“I’m still the Luna of this pack. I outrank you. You should respect my position.”

She challenged me with a look. If she thought I would tolerate her attitude, she was clearly mistaken.

“Don’t test me, Kailin. You’re maybe my best friend, but I’m still your Luna. So stand down and stay.”

She shook her head, disappointment and anger flashing in her eyes, but she stayed.

I went to Dane. For the first time, I saw the effect and pull of their mating bond. And for the first time, I’d seen how it affected both of them. He looked devastated, even for a man who could block emotions and keep them somewhere deep in his chest. He was not looking at me, but his expression said otherwise.

“You can stay here as much as you want. Right now, it won’t be easy for the both of you. She’s mad, and I can feel you’re fighting the bond yourself, but please, don’t ever reject her, or you just got your number one enemy.”

His head snapped at me. His eyes were deep, azure blue, penetrating me with intense glare. “That’s not your decision.”

“Yes. It’s not mine, but given that you are here, and how you reacted when Kailin said you’re an asshole and a bloody murderer, and the fact that you haven’t rejected her, I can say you’re considering giving it a chance.”

He clenched his jaw hard, nose flaring, and looked away.

“Get inside, Dane. I’m not done talking to your mate.” When he turned on his heels and left us, I returned to Kailin.

“There’s nothing you can say that can change my mind.”

“I think I do. He must be good at what he does. Look, your kind- it’s in your nature to be feral, distrustful, ruthless, and overprotective. He does what he does because that’s his job. He’s getting paid to do the job, and he’s working at the council. I say it’s more honorable than killing people for fun. I’m sure he honors a code.”

“Why are you even defending him?” She hissed at me.

“Remember when you came to me and told me to give Knight a chance?”

“Because he’s my cousin and has a decent job and an alpha.”

“You can’t choose who will be your mate, K. You know that.” I let go of a deep sigh. “It’s already written in the stone, and you’re destined for him, but I didn’t give Knight a chance because he has a decent job, an alpha, or a freaking billionaire. I chose him because, you know, the first time I saw your cousin, I was attracted to him, and I wanted to know him more, and the fact that we’re fated to be together, it’s not something that I can control, and I can tell you, that was the best decision I ever made.”

“You’re just lucky he treats you well.”

“You should give this a chance, and maybe you can convince him to quit and find a less dangerous job. Or you can decide on your own, and both will suffer the consequences. Knowing I found my soulmate, and he will always be faithful and protect me with his life, it’s not something you can find someone like him in our lifetime.”
